Lieutenant Georgios Tsitsikostas
Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas was born in 1964 in Tripoli. He was admitted in the Hellenic Army Academy in 1982 from which he graduated in 1986 at the rank of Infantry 2nd Lieutenant.
He was commissioned in the Special Forces in 1987. As a junior officer he served in Special Forces units such as D Raiders Squadron, 2 Paratroopers Squadron, 2 National Guard Special Detachment and the Unconventional Warfare Training Centre.
He attended all of the stipulated trainings of Infantry Officers. He graduated from all the Special Forces schools of HAGS/Special Forces Directorate in Greece but also from the School of Underwater Demolition. He attended various schools abroad, such as patrol schools in the International Special Training Centre (Germany), Officers Education Schools in member-states of NATO and the EU. He graduated from the Special Forces Officers School in Fort Bragg – USA, where he was awarded for his performance.
In 2002 he graduated from the Supreme War College but also from the ΝΑΤΟ Defence College in 2012, where he was awarded for his performance.
As a higher Officer he served as Deputy Commander at the Unconventional Warfare Training Centre, as Director of Operations - Training at the Ι Infantry Division, as staff officer at the Chief of HAGS Executive Office, at the NATO Land Forces HQ as staff officer for the Plans and Defence Policy Directorate, as Commander of the Hellenic Army Academy Regiment from 2012 to 2014 and as the Director of the Executive Office of the Chief of HNDGS from 2014 to 2015.
He commanded the C Amphibious Raiders Squadron from 2008 to 2010 and up to 2012 he served as Chief of Staff at the 96 Higher National Guard Battalions Command.
As Brigadier General he served as the Director of the Executive Office of the President of the EU Military Committee (Brussels, Belgium) from 2015 to 2017 and then he commanded the 13 Special Operations Command from 2017 to 2018.
In 2018, having been promoted to Major General, he served as Deputy Commander at the 4th Army Corps and from 2019 to 2021 as Commander of the Inter-service Special Operations Command.
On 1 March 2021 he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assumed the duties of Army Reorganisation Inspector – Special Warfare Command Establishment Coordinator – Special Warfare Command/Commander (after its establishment). Since 11 November 2021, he has been appointed Commander Special Warfare Command.
Lieutenant Georgios Tsitsikostas has been awarded all of the stipulated Decorations, Medals and Commendations.
He holds a certificate from the centre for Diplomacy and Strategic Studies (Paris) “Center d’ Etudes Diplomatiques et Strategiques (CEDS)” and a postgraduate degree in “Business Management (ΜΒΑ) in Human Resources” from the University of the Aegean.
He is fluent in English and Spanish.
