Lt. Gen. (GRC A) Sotirios KOSTAKOGLOU

Commander of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands


Lt Gen Sotirios KOSTAKOGLOU was born in Kozani in 1966. He was
admitted in the Hellenic Military Academy in 1983 and graduated in 1987 as
an infantry officer.

As a Junior Officer he was assigned as Platoon Leader and Company
Commander to various Infantry Battalions, as well as an instructor at the
Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers.
He has attended and graduated from all required military schools and

In 1995 he attended the Company Commanders Course at Fort Benning
(Georgia-USA) and in 2009 the NATO Operational Planning Orientation
Course (Germany).

In 1999 he attended the Hellenic War College in Thessaloniki.

In 2012 he attended the Hellenic National Defense College.

As a superior officer he has served in the 25th Armored BDE, the 50th Mech Inf BDE, the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-GREECE, the D Army Corps, the
Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, the EUROCORPS and as CIPIC Director of
KFOR, while in 2004 he was assigned as Deputy Commander of the SPT
From 2006 to 2008 he was assigned as Commander of the 506 Mech Inf BN
and during that period he deployed 2 times with the Unit at Camp RIGAS
FEREOS in Kosovo.
From 2013 to 2015 he was assignes as Commander of the 21th Mech Inf REG.
In 2017 he was promoted as Bde Gen and was assigned as Commander of
the 34 Mech Inf BDE.

In March 2019 he was promoted as MGen and was assigned initially as
Commander of the Hellenic Army Infantry School and later served in the
Supreme Military Support Command.

In 2020 he was assigned as Commander of the 2nd Mech Inf DIV and then in
2021 as Commander of the HAGS Infantry Directory.

As decided by the Governmental National Security Council assembled on 9 March 2022, he was promoted as Lt Gen and took over the Command of C’ Army Corps/NRDC-GR in Thessaloniki.

In January 2023 he was assigned as Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands.

Lt Gen Sotirios KOSTAKOGLOU has been awarded all decorations,
commendations and medals provided for his rank and in addition the following
    • NATO medal for PSO in Kosovo
    • French medal for his service at EUROCORPS
    • USA Meritorious Service medal for his service as Bn Commander at
    • KFOR under the Command of USA Brigade in 2006.

He is married to Ioanna Skouloudi and has two sons, Ioannis and Antonios, who have joined the Army being now 2nd Lt (ARTY) and 2nd Lt (HAA), respectively.
