Lieutenant General

Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos was born in 1965 in Didymoteicho. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1983 and graduated in 1987 as Infantry Second Lieutenant.

As a junior Officer, he served in several Army Units as Platoon Leader and Company Commander.

He has attended all required Infantry Schools, the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College and the Hellenic National Defense College in Greece.

In 2008, he was assigned as Commander of 558th Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

In 2011 he has participated in NATO mission in Afghanistan as ISAF LNO coordinator.

As a senior Officer, he served in HAGS as Chief Current Ops and Staff Officer in G2, as COS in a Bde HQ, as G5 Chief in Corps HQ and as DCOS SPT DIV in NRDC-ITA.

In 2016, he was promoted to Brigadier General and he was assigned as DCOM of II Mechanized Infantry Division.

In 2017 he was assigned as Commanding General of 50 Mechanized Brigade “APSOS”.

Upon his promotion to Major General in 2019, he assumed his duties as Chief of A’ Branch (OPERATIONS), HAGS.

In 2020, he was assigned as DCOM of Superior Logistic Command.

In 2021 he assumed his duties as Chief A’ Branch to the HNDGS.

In 2022, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and was assigned as Commanding General of D Army Corps “THRAKI”.

On 17 January 2023, upon decision of the Government Council on Foreign Policy and National Defense, he assumed his duties as Commander of the Hellenic 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ.

Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos has been awarded all decorations, commendations and medals provided for his rank.

He holds a Masters Degree in Applied Strategy and International Security from Plymouth University and a Diploma in Negotiations from the Department of Economics and Business of Athens University.
