Georgios Kellis

Lieutenant General

Lieutenant General Georgios Kellis was born in 1964 in Xanthi. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1982 and graduated in 1986 as Engineer Second Lieutenant.

As a junior Officer, he served in Army Units and Independent Subunits as Platoon Leader and Company Commander.

He has attended all required Engineer Officer Training Courses, as well as the Engineer Officer Technical Training School.

In 2000, he served as Staff Officer of the SEEBRIG Planning Division in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

In 2004, he graduated from the Supreme Joint War College.

During his career as a senior Officer, he served as Director of the 732nd Military Works Directorate in Xanthi and as Commander of the 25th Engineer Company and the 724th Engineer Battalion in Xanthi.

In 2008, he served as Training Director at the NATO MILENG COE in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Following his promotion to Colonel in 2011, he attended the Hellenic National Defence College and was then assigned as Engineer Commander of D Army Corps.

In 2016, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Commanding General of the Engineer Brigade of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR and then as Director of the Infrastructure and Environmental Protection Directorate in HAGS.

In 2019, following his promotion to Major General, he was assigned in HAGS as Director of the Engineer Directorate.

In 2020, he was assigned as Director of C Staff Directorate, HAGS.

On 01 March 2021, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and, upon decision of the Governmental Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence, he assumed his duties as Deputy Chief HAGS.

Lieutenant General Georgios Kellis has been awarded all decorations, commendations, and medals provided for his rank.

He holds a BSc degree, as well as an integrated MSc degree, in Civil Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace, a Masters Degree in New Materials and Technologies in the Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures, and is a PhD candidate at the Democritus University of Thrace.

He speaks English and Bulgarian.

He is married to Ms. Stefanou Theopoula and has two children:

    • Ekaterini, 25, German Language and Literature degree holder
