Mechanized Infantry Squads of the D Army Corps “THRACE” participate in competition

From Wednesday, 04 July, to Friday, 06 July, 2018, a competition was held at “PSILOS STALOS” Firing Range among Mechanized Infantry Squads, in which participated personnel from all the Mechanized Units and the Tactical Command of the 21st Mechanized Infantry Regiment of D Army Corps (D Army Corps “THRACE”).

The Squads were evaluated according to various operational scenarios they may deal with on a modern battlefield.
The final stage of the competition was attended by the Commander of D Army Corps, Lieutenant General Georgios Kampas. The competition confirmed the excellent organization and the operational readiness of the troops that participated in it.

Congratulations to every person engaged and every participant on the impeccable planning, execution, passion and professionalism which they showed throughout the stages of the competition.

Award of Static Line Parachutists Badge at the Parachutists School

On July 12, 2018 a ceremony for the award of static line parachutists diplomas and badges to those who successfully graduated from the Parachutists Basic Training School of 2018 B Enlistment Series, was held at the Headquarters of the Parachutists School in Aspropirgos, Attica.   

This demanding and specialized training, held at the Parachutists School from 11 June to 12 July, 2018 was successfully completed by 5 Officers (2 of them from the Hellenic Navy), 5 Non-Commissioned Officers (2 of them from the National Guard General Staff), and 48 servicemen.

The diplomas and the badges were awarded by the Director of the Special Forces Directorate, Hellenic Army General Staff, Major General Nikolaos Chionis.

Celebration for the Feast of Saint Paisios, Patron Saint of the Signals Arm

On Sunday, 15 July, 2018, the official celebration of Saint Paisios’ feast, Patron Saint of the Signals Arm was held at the Signal School Headquarters, at Chaidari, Attica.

The commemorative events took place on the occasion of the completion of one year since Saint Paisios was declared as the Patron Saint of the Signals Arm, following a decision of the Minister of National Defence on 12 July, 2017, because of his specialization as signals soldier, during his military service.  The Signals Arm has, since then, its own Patron Saint.

The Eulogistic Mass and the litany of Saint Paisios’ Icon at “KARAISKAKI A» Camp, was followed by a demonstration of communication systems.

Naming ceremony of the Outpost “GEMISTI - FIVE YEAR SERVICE VOLUNTEER SERGEANT (ENG) STEFANOS PITIKAKIS – PRIVATE (ENG) CHRISTOS PALIVIDAS”

On Wednesday, 11 July, 2018, the naming ceremony of the Greek Outpost “GEMISTI – FIVE YEAR SERVICE VOLUNTEER SERGEANT (ENG) STEFANOS PITIKAKIS – PRIVATE (ENG) CHRISTOS PALIVIDAS” was held.   

In early June 1998, the 212 Squad of the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion, started minefield clearance works, at the area of Eliki, Gemisti, Evros.  The Squad of the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion in the context of its mission, had conducted the removal of a significant number of antipersonnel mines, when in the morning of Monday, 15 June, 1998, the two minesweepers, Five Year Service Volunteer Sergeant (Eng) Stefanos Pitikakis and Private (Eng) Christos Palividas, were mortally wounded from the explosion of an antipersonnel mine.

On Friday, July 13th 2018, a ceremony for the construction of foundations for a two-story Logistics building of totally 2.450 square meters in area took place. The said building includes kitchens, restaurants with a capacity of 600 persons, a recreation centre and other Logistics areas. The project is being implemented, courtesy of the Republic of Cyprus.
The integration of the new Logistics building, in combination with the ongoing effort of the Hellenic Army General Staff to upgrade the School, achieves the modernization of its premises in general and the improvement of the personnel’s quality of life.

The fact that, within a reasonable period of time, Students and other staff will have the opportunity to enjoy such a “state-of-art” Logistics building, which will be a reference point and a real gem for the School, creates to all of us a feeling of particular joy and expectation.
