On Tuesday, 19 December 2023, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis, visited Surveillance Outposts in the Area of Responsibility of the High Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS”.

In particular, the Chief visited the Surveillance Outpost of “GAVDOS”, from where he delivered an address, via teleconference, during a ceremony that took place at the High Military Command of Interior and Islands Headquarters in honour of former High Military Command of Interior and Islands Commanders. He then visited the Surveillance Outpost of “HALKI”, the Surveillance Outpost “PANAGHIA KYRA” in Nisyros, and the Surveillance Outpost of “PSERIMOS”.

During his visit, the Chief thanked the personnel for their work and exchanged wishes in view of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

From 11 to 14 December 2023, within the framework of continuous Army personnel training, personnel of the 747th Special Engineer Battalion and Medical Corps personnel received certified training as “Rescuers” by specialised personnel of the Hellenic Red Cross at Camp “Dimitriou Bellia”.

The training included, among others, a briefing on the basic principles of first aid and rescue, as well as practice on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use of the Automated External Defibrillator, choking first aid – “Heimlich” manoeuvre, trauma and burns, recovery position, helmet removal technique, airway and ventilation support, and splinting and carrying skills.

From 11 to 14 December 2023, Artillery Units of the Hellenic First Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS” conducted Fire Training at the NATO Missile Firing Installation in Crete.

The activity included the implementation of all relevant support fire request, coordination, and execution procedures in order to achieve the greatest synergy possible among those involved in the operations, following the “train as you fight” principle.

In particular, fires were conducted by self-propelled M109 and PzH 2000GR howitzers and RM-70 multiple rocket launchers. The activity confirmed the high level of operational training of the personnel in the technical and tactical use of the weapon systems.

On Friday, 08 December 2023, troops and assets of the 71st Airmobile Brigade “PONTOS”, the 1st Army Aviation Brigade “KILKIS LAHANAS”, and the US 12th Combat Aviation Brigade conducted operational training in the broader area of the village of Livadia on Mt. Paiko.

The training examined many operational tasks and procedures, such as planning and execution of airmobile operations in cooperation with transport and utility helicopters.
