Visit by the Chief HAGS to the Area of Responsibility of 79 Higher National Guard Battalions Command

On July 14th and 15th 2020, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis visited the Area of Responsibility of the 79 Higher National Guard Battalions Command (“MYKALI”), accompanied by the Commander of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands (“AIGEAS”), Lieutenant General Petros Demestichas.

During his visit, the Chief visited Units, Surveillance Outposts and military facilities in the Formation’s Area of Responsibility; he attended operational activities and provided directions to the personnel for the performance of its mission.

The visit confirmed the high readiness level and the realism of the training carried out, as well as the high morale of the personnel.

Army Social Contribution activities – 1st Semester of 2020

During the first semester of 2020, the Army within the framework of its social contribution, carried out the following activities:

- Contribution to air evacuation operations for 105 patients from central and southeastern Aegean islands to hospitals in urban centers by NH-90 and CH-47D helicopters that completed 298 flight hours day and night.

- Control and clearance by echelons of the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion of 1.040.105 square meters in area, resulting in the spotting, disposal and destruction of 2853 landmines.

- Construction of abutments and development of a BAILEY bridge at Therma in Samothrace island.

- Rehabilitation of part of the forest road network and building of fire breaks in the area of Mount Athos.

Completion of the Construction of Military Quarters

Within the framework of the Army personnel welfare, the construction of a number of apartments (Officers’ Quarters – Non Commissioned Officers’ Quarters and Professional Conscripts’ Quarters) has been completed as follows:

• 18 apartments at “Second Lieutenant (Inf) GEORGIOS PATSOUKAS” Camp in Alexandroupolis

• 12 apartments at “Reserve Second Lieutenant PAPANASTASIOU” Camp in Orestiada.

• 6 apartments at “Lieutenant General SOTIRIOS TSIONOS” in Rhodes.

• 2 δ • 2 apartments at “DIMITRIADIS” Camp in Limnos.

• 2 partments at “Lieutenant General KONSTANTINOS PAPAPANAGIOTOU” in Loutraki – Korinthos.

Handover Ceremony of the Administrative Council of the Army Retired Officers Association

The handover ceremony of the Administrative Council of the Army Retired Officers Association took place on Saturday 04 July 2020, at the Armed Forces Officers Club. The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr Alkiviadis Stefanis attended the ceremony as the representative of the government. A representative of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, a representative of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, members of the Hellenic Parliament, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis also attended the ceremony.

Summer Training of the Students of the Career NCOs School

The summer training of the students of the Career NCOs School took place from 01 to 19 June 2020, in the area of Kanapitsa - Litochoro and at the Unorthodox Warfare Centre in Rentina – Thessaloniki.

The students’ training programme included subjects of operational and special training, with the assistance of floating assets, mechanised and air assets, as well as raiders’ subjects.
