Hellenic Army’s Contribution to Society, Regarding Environmental Protection

The Hellenic Army, in the context of the programme pertaining to alternative packaging management (glass, plastic, metal, paper) in its camps, plans and implements actions that aim at the harmonisation with the new environmental legislation, which is applied by the European Union, with regard to the separate collection of recyclable packaging materials.

In 2013, the Hellenic Army started participating in a recycling programme, with the participation of 94 camps. In 2018, the number of camps increased to 221 camps, amounting to a 128% increase.

In addition, since 2018, a programme of separate collection of individual packaging materials has been implemented, especially in D’ Army Corps, in 28 camps. Indicatively, during the implementation of this programme, in the second semester of 2018, in a D’ Army Corps Formation, the following materials were collected, during the separate collection:

January 2019 Hellenic Army’s Social Contribution in Air Evacuations

In January 2019, the Hellenic Army contributed to air evacuation operations, using the 1st Army Aviation Brigade Helicopters, for the execution of 20 day and night missions. 26 patients were evacuated from the central and South-eastern Aegean islands to city hospitals.

The Army Aviation helicopters provide the aforementioned services of social contribution on a daily basis, without the least exemption from their engagement in their everyday multiple operational activities (exercises, troops’ transport, surveillance, reconnaissance, etc.).

Graduation of Officers from the Hellenic Army Command and General Staff College

On Friday, 08 February 2019, the graduation ceremony of the students of the 31st Training Class of the Hellenic Army Command and General Staff College who successfully completed the course took place in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki.
The diplomas were awarded to the graduates by the Army Inspector General and Commander of the Training Doctrine Command, Lieutenant General Antonios Nomikos.

The ceremony was attended by the General Consul of Cyprus in Thessaloniki, Mr. Spyros Miltiadis, representatives of the local civilian and religious authorities, as well as families of the graduates.

Meetings of the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff with the Defence Attachés of the United States of America, Germany, France and Israel.

On Monday, 11 February and on Tuesday, 12 February 2019, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kampas, met in his office with Defence Attachés of foreign states to Greece, in the context of a courtesy visit, as follows:

- The Defence Attaché of the United States of America, Colonel Robert R. Anderson.

- The Defence Attaché of Germany, Colonel Frank Kammerer.

- The Defence Attaché of France, Colonel Charles Aballea.

- The Defence Attaché of Israel, Captain (N) Zvica Shahar.

Issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meetings.

Higher Army Support Military Command Change of Command Ceremony

On Friday, 08 February 2019, the Higher Army Support Military Command Change of Command Ceremony took place in "ANTISTRATIGOU NIKOLAOU ZORBA" Camp, with Lieutenant General Vasilios Papadopoulos assuming command from Lieutenant General Konstantinos Vasiliadis, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kambas.

The ceremony was attended by a representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, foreign military attachés, Honorary Chiefs of Hellenic Army General Staff and Commanding Generals of the Higher Army Support Military Command, active duty and retired Senior and General Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, representatives of the Unions of Retired Officers, and other guests.
