From Saturday, 29 October, to Friday, 5 November 2022, a Tank Platoon Competition took place at the Tank Range in Petrohori, Xanthi, among Armoured Units of D Army Corps “THRAKI” operating LEO2 (A4 and HEL) tanks, including a Tank Platoon of the US C/1-18 Infantry Regiment operating Μ1Α1 ABRAMS tanks.

The platoons were evaluated on operational procedures with measurable objective criteria, focusing, among others, on small echelon tactics, firing technique, and tank-related technical matters.

The final scores of the Platoons were based on the time required for each crew to complete the tasks and the individual scoring of their skills, particularly the accuracy of the shots fired.

During the competition, the competing crews demonstrated effort, passion, and deep knowledge of the tasks, as well as their high level of training and operational readiness.

The final phase of the competition was attended by the Commanding General of D Army Corps “THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos, Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Ms. Salina Rico, Deputy Principal Officer of the US General Consulate in Thessaloniki, Col Kelly McDonald, Chief ODC-GR, observers from Egypt, Armenia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Italy, Cyprus, and Romania, Armed and Security Forces officers, and representatives of the local government.
