A scientific event titled “Stories of the soul… roles of life!” took place on Sunday 02 December 2018 at the Thessaloniki Officers Club. The event was jointly organised by HAGS and the Nonprofit Company “ΑΚΟS - Cancer: Treatment of the Body and the Soul”, in the context of the cooperation which is in place between them.

The particular scientific one-day conference is part of a series of actions regarding the provision of information to the Army’s personnel and aims to promote the importance of prevention as means to face various diseases.

The Chief of HAGS, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis attended the event and addressed the participants. Particularly important speeches were given, such as:

- “Stories of Soul – Roles of Life” by Dr Despina Katsochi, Chairwoman of ΑΚΟS, Oncologist - Radiotherapist.

- “Drawing cancer: a modern narrative tool” by Ms Eleni Tarnara, Clinical Psychologist, “Training and Research Institute for Systemic Psychotherapy.

- “Love the human, because you are human too” by Ms Eleni Nteliopoulou, Vice Chairwoman of the Hellenic Cancer Society.

- “The evolution of cancer’s treatment” by Dr Charis Karanikiotis, Pathologist - Oncologist.

- “The power within us” by Ms Maria Kokorotskou, Training Programmes Supervisor for the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography.

- “The doctor and his life’s roles” by Dr Ioannis Mpoukovinas, Pathologist - Oncologist.

Works of art by treated patients and doctors – amateur photographers were on display during the event, depicting their lives and their frontal battle against cancer.

Cooperation actions with health bodies continue unabated throughout the “Personnel Welfare Year” aiming to inform and train our human workforce, on issues pertaining to the protection of our most valuable asset, your health.

Representatives of Thessaloniki local and religious authorities, delegations from Formations and Units of the Thessaloniki Guard and a delegation of students from the Corps Officers Military Academy attended the event.
