On Wednesday, 12 October 2022, a ceremony was held, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, for the opening of the Child Care Centre of Alexandroupolis, which was funded with a donation from the Vasilios G. Melas Foundation.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Foundation’s Steering Committee, Mr. Georgios Melas, accompanied by members of the Committee, the Commanding General of D Army Corps ”THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos, the Commanding General of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROU”, Major General Panaghiotis Kavidopoulos, the President of the Municipal Board of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Georgios Kaisas, and the Protosynkellos of the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis, Traianoupolis, and Samothrace, Father Irineos.

The new child care centre, which is inside Camp “EF. ANTHLGOU (PZ) GEORGIOU PATSOUKA”, is fully equipped with everything necessary for its operation, adapted to the needs of pre-school children, and is the newest addition to the Army’s existing 23 child care centres.
