Oath-Taking Ceremony of Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) First Class Cadets, Class of 2025

On Tuesday, 21 December 2021, the oath-taking ceremony of first year cadets, Class of 2025 “Lt Gen Stylianos Kalbourtzis”, was held at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in Vari, Attica.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis.

The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Vari, Voula, and Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigorios Konstantellos, the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, Mr. Antonios, the Chief of the Fire Service, Fire Lieutenant General Stefanos Kolokouris, the Members of the Supreme Military Council, the Deputy Head of the Region of Attica for East Attica, Mr. Athanasios Avgerinos, the former Deputy Minister of National Defence and Honorary Chief HAGS, General Alkiviadis Stefanis (ret.), as well as representatives of the other Services of the Armed and Security Forces.

Furthermore, the ceremony was attended by the two daughters of Lieutenant General Kalbourtzis Stylianos, after whom the Class of 2025 was named, Ms. Maria and Ms. Afroditi-Kyriaki Kalbourtzi.

A total of 238 first year cadets took the oath, of which 207 from Greece, 23 from Cyprus, 2 from Tunisia, 2 from Montenegro, 1 from Albania, 2 from Armenia, and 1 from Moldova.

Lieutenant General Kalbourtzis Stylianos

Lt Col (Art) Kalbourtzis Stylianos was born in Thessaloniki in 1921. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) on 31 December 1949 and graduated on 17 August 1950 as Infantry Second Lieutenant.

He took part and fell while fighting heroically in the battle north of the village of Synchari, Cyprus, on 23 July 1974, as Commander of the 181st Field Artillery Battalion.

On 12 December 2008, the Hellenic Republic gave him an honorary promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General.
