The Hellenic Army General Staff, within the framework of its constant efforts to improve personnel welfare and upgrade the border security and surveillance network, proceeded, with donations from civilians and public and private sector initiatives, to the construction and renovation of military facilities, as well as accepted a donation of utility vehicles.

In particular, the Military Housing Unit “KNITHAKI” in Didymotiho was created by reconstructing two buildings of the former Camp “EMMANOUIL KNITHAKI” with a donation from Mr. Theodoros Angelopoulos. In total, 12 apartments were constructed for the families of military personnel serving in Northern Evros.

Furthermore, Surveillance Outpost 5 was constructed in the area of Nea Vyssa. The landscaping works and the equipment of the Outpost were donations from the “Greece 2021” committee and the company Raycap, respectively. The new infrastructure upgrades the surveillance and deterrence operational capabilities in the sensitive area of Northern Evros, as well as improve living conditions for the Outpost personnel.

Furthermore, 4 all-terrain utility vehicles were delivered as part of a donation of 20 vehicles from the “Greece 2021” committee to the Hellenic Army General Staff. The induction of these vehicles upgrades our border surveillance capabilities.

The ceremonies for the aforementioned actions took place on Thursday, 12 October 2023, in Didymotiho and Nea Vyssa, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, the President of the “Greece 2021” committee, Ms. Gianna Angelopoulos – Daskalaki, Mr. Theodoros Angelopoulos, the representative of the company Raycap, Mr. Argyrios Kagiannas.

The events were also attended by MP for Evros and Honorary Chief of the Hellenic Police, Mr. Anastasios Dimoschakis, the Mayor of Didymotiho, Mr. Romylos Hatzigiannoglou, the Mayor of Orestiada, Mr. Vasilios Mavridis, His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Didymotiho, Orestiada, and Soufli, Mr. Damaskinos, the Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General Charalampos Lalousis (ret.), the General Secretary of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Georgios Mylonakis, the Commanding General of D Army Corps “THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Dimokritos Konstantakos, the Commanding General of the XVI Mechanised Infantry Division “DIDYMOTIHOU”, Major General Konstantinos Karamanidis, active duty Army and Security Forces officers, retired Army officers, and many other guests.
