Within the framework of international cooperation activities with friendly and allied nations planned by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Friday, 01 December 2023, was DV Day at the "ASKOS-PROFITIS” Range and Proving Ground of the Mechanised Infantry Battalion Task Force-level Field Exercise “GOLDEN FLEECE-23” of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR “MEGAS ALEXANDROS”, with troops and assets from the II Mechanised Infantry Division “ELASSON”, the 71st Airmobile Brigade “PONTOS”, the 1st Raider – Parachutist Brigade “EL ALAMEIN”, the 1st Army Aviation Brigade “KILKIS LAHANAS”, and a pair of F-16 fighter aircraft, a C-130 transport aircraft, and a CL-215 of the Hellenic Air Force.

Furthermore, the exercise included a Mountain Infantry Platoon of the Romanian Land Forces, a Mounted Light Infantry Platoon of the Albanian Land Force, an Infantry Squad of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia, 2 Officers from Cyprus, as well as Observers from Egypt, Armenia, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.

The objective of the exercise was to upgrade military cooperation and strengthen the bonds among participants, increase interoperability, as well as improve their training and operational capabilities in rapidly changing situations appearing on the battlefield during peace support and peacekeeping operations.

The exercise included operational tasks such as UAV surveillance, parachutist drops, capture of tactical ground by an Airmobile Infantry Platoon in support of a simultaneous attack by a Mechanised Infantry Battalion-level Task Force, in cooperation with transport and utility helicopters and with Artillery and Air Force support.

The final phase of the exercise was attended by the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, the Commander of the Albanian Land Force, Brigadier General Ilir Xhebexhia, the Metropolitan of Langadas, Liti, and Rentina, Mr. Platon, the Commanding General of the Hellenic First Army/EU OHQ “ACHILLEAS”, Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos, the Commanding General of the Hellenic Special Warfare Command of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Choupis, the Commanding General of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR “MEGAS ALEXANDROS”, Lieutenant General Paris Kapravelos, representatives of the local government, Officers of the participating NATO nations in the NRDC-GR, as well as Armed and Security Forces Officers.
