On Thursday, 22 September 2022, a day event was held at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) on the Subject “Centennial of the Asia Minor Campaign”, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff.
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Vari, Voula, and Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigorios Konstantellos, the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, Mr. Antonios, the Commanding General of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS”, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Houpis, as well as representatives of the Chiefs of Hellenic Navy and Hellenic Air Force General Staffs.
The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, while addresses were given by the Chief HAGS and the Academy Commandant, Major General Stavros Papastathopoulos. The opening lecture was given by the honorary Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) lecturer, founder and general scientific director of the Continuing Education Institute, Dr. Aristidis Giapalis.
Lectures were given by the Director of the Modern Greek History Research Centre of the Academy of Athens, Mr. Sotirios Rizas, the Director of the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments, Dr. Flora Karagianni, the special scientist and lecturer of Political History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Dimitrios Malesis, the Assistant Professor of Political History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Nikolaos Tompros, the Professor Emeritus of the Division of Communications, Electronics, and Information Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Mr. George Stassinopoulos, the Professor Emeritus of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Andreas Kastanis, the Assistant Professor of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Nikolaos Kanelopoulos, and the Deputy Commander of the Army Inspectorate General – Doctrine and Training Command, special scientist, and lecturer of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Major General Anastasios Polychronos.
Moderators of the event were the Head of the Historical Archives Service Directorate of the Army History Directorate of HAGS, Dr. Efpraxia Paschalidou, and the President of the Hellenic Commission on Military History, Major General Georgios Rachmanidis.
