The Armed Forces’ contribution to society, under the planning and instructions of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, is constant, multifaceted and substantial. In this context, the Hellenic Army General Staff contributes to the reinforcement of the work of the National Centre for Emergency Care in the field of air MEDEVACs.

The Army, with its operational flying assets, constitutes a “bridge of life” over the Aegean or wherever required, for air MEDEVACs of patients in need of further hospitalisation at the medical units of the urban centres, so as to receive the required medical care.

In the year 2022, the Army conducted 296 day and night air MEDEVACs, while a total of 407 patients were evacuated in total. During the same period, an aircraft of Army Aviation was assigned the transport of 7 transplants. In total, in 2022 the flying assets of Army Aviation completed 819 hours of flight for air MEDEVAC missions.

Finally, in the current year and particularly for the Α΄ semester of 2023, Army Aviation executed 155 air MEDEVAC missions, 228 patients were evacuated in total, completing 476 flight hours, while it also conducted the transport of 13 transplants.
