The installation of the first Halcyon linear accelerator was completed, on Wednesday 12 June 2019, at a specially configured hall of the 401 Athens General Military Hospital, whose safe operation was certified by the Greek Atomic Energy Commission.

The accelerator was installed thanks to a donation by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s donation to the 401 Athens General Military Hospital, totalling 5.000.000 Euros, includes the supply and installation of two state of the art linear accelerators and an MRI machine, also available to every citizen. The linear accelerators installed in the 401 Athens General Military Hospital constitute a part of the wider donation by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, for the supply and installation of radiotherapy devices in public hospitals throughout the country.

As of Monday 22 July 2019, the 401 Athens General Military Hospital can receive the first clinical case, expecting full operation by September 2019. At the same time the installation of the second linear accelerator will also be completed, also donated by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which will be available for clinical use at the beginning of 2020, making the facilities of the 401 Athens General Military Hospital some of the most modern ones and the level of medical services provided by the Army, one of the highest in Europe.
