On 14 and 15 May 2022, within the framework of the 102nd anniversary of “Eleftheria 2022”, the following events took place in the Area of Responsibility of D Army Corps “THRAKI”:

•        On Saturday, 14 May, “Eleftheria 2022” in Alexandroupoli, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Responsible for Macedonia – Thrace, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, as representative of the government, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff. The events included a Divine Liturgy – Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Aghios Nikolaos, a memorial service at the memorial of Domna Visvizi, wreath laying, and a student and military parade. The events were attended by Members of Parliament, the Mayor of Alexandroupoli, Mr. Giannis Zaboukis, His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Alexandroupoli, Traianoupoli, and Samothrace, Mr. Anthimos, the Commanding General of D Army Corps ”THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos, the Deputy Head of Region for Evros, Mr. Dimitrios Petrovits, representatives of the local government and Armed and Security Forces Officers. In the afternoon, the Chief HAGS, upon invitation of the Deputy Head of Region for Evros, Mr. Dimitrios Petrovits, participated in the flame lighting ceremony for the opening of the “VIA EGNATIA RUN” race, which was organised by the Region of East Macedonia and Thrace – Regional Unit of Evros.

•        On Sunday, 15 May, “Eleftheria 2022” in Didymotiho, which included a Divine Liturgy – Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Panaghia Eleftherotria, the opening ceremony for the Thracian Refugee Memorial, wreath laying, the renaming of “Nikis” street to “XVI Mechanised Infantry Division” street, and the proclamation of the Chief HAGS as Honorary Citizen of the city by the Municipality for his contribution to the promotion of sports in the area. In addition to the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, the events were attended by Members of Parliament, the Mayor of Didymotiho, Mr. Romylos Hatzigianoglou, His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Didymotiho, Orestiada & Soufli, Mr. Damaskinos, the Commanding General of D Army Corps ”THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos, representatives of the religious and local government authorities, and Armed and Security Forces Officers.
