On Sunday 19 and Monday 20 July 2026, the feast day of Prophet Elijah the Tishbean, the Patron Saint of Army Aviation was celebrated at Army Camp “CAPTAIN (ART) SPYRIDON DELAPORTAS” at Megara, Attica, alongside the “Army Aviation Memorial and Honour Day”.
Specifically, on Sunday 19 July 2026, in the presence of the Chief of Staff/HAGS, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Karmanidis, as representative of the Chief/HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis and the Chief/HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, a Great Solemn Vespers and a procession of the icon of the Prophet Elijah took place.
On Monday 20 July 2026, in the presence of the HAGS A Branch Director, Major General Ilias Kostakis, as representative of the Chief/HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Chief/HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, a memorial service was held and wreaths were laid, while, following the ceremony, a demonstration of the assets and systems of Army Aviation took place.
The celebrations were honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Megara, Panagiotis Margetis, the Protopresbyter father Alexios, and the HNDGS Director of Military Chaplains, Protopresbyter father Nektarios Markakis, who officiated the ceremonies, active and retired Officers and other guests.
