On Sunday 01 November 2026, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Thanasis Davakis and the Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis representing the Chief HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis, celebrations were held for the anniversary of the Liberation of Metsovo and the Remembrance Day for the Fallen Cavalry – Armour Officers of 1940, at the Metsovo Cavalry Memorial.

The celebrations, among others, included a doxology at the Church of St. Paraskevi, a memorial service at the Cavalry Memorial to the Fallen during the 1940 Epic, where wreaths were laid, and finally followed a parade in Metsovo.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of MP for Ioannina Mr. Giorgos Amyras, and Mr. Ioannis Tsimaris, the Head of Region of Epirus Mr. Alexandros Kachrimanis, the Mayor of Metsovo, Mrs. Maria – Christina Averof, the Very Reverend Archimandrite, fr. Serapheim, the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia/NRDC-GR, Lieutenant General Grigorios Bountliakis, the Chief of Staff HAGS, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Karamanidis, the President of the Association of Retired Cavalry-Armour Officers, Lieutenant General (ret.) Dimitrios Kyriakos, active and retired Army Officers, and other guests.
