On Thursday 23 April 2026, celebration ceremonies were held for the Patron Saint of the Army, the Great Martyr Saint George, throughout the Army’s Formations.
The main celebration was held at the Infantry School at Camp “VELISSARIOU”, attended by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, as representative of the Hellenic Government, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis.
The ceremony at the Infantry School included a doxology, officiated by His Grace, the Bishop of Skopelos, Mr. Nikodimos, as well as a laying of wreaths.
The ceremony was attended by:
- MP for Evoia Athanasios Zembilis, as representative of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament.
- Representatives of the Parliamentary Parties.
- The Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN.
- The Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General (HAF) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis.
- Honorary Chiefs of Hellenic Army General Staff.
- Members of the Supreme Military Council.
- The Deputy Head of Region for the Regional Unit of Evoia, Mr. Georgios Kelaiditis.
- Representatives of local government, active duty and retired Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, as well as other guests.
Following the end of the ceremony, a display of weapon systems and assets took place, wherein, among others, were presented the Modern Fighter, a Sniper Element, the Underwater Demolition Frogman, the Special Mission “POLARIS MRZR” Vehicle, the V-BAT UAV System, the SPIKE N-LOS weapon system, as well as the Mobile Drone Production Unit.
Furthermore, at the Hellenic Military Academy, in the presence of the Deputy Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis, and the Mayor of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigorios Konstantellos, a similar celebration ceremony took place, officiated by His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, Mr. Antonios, and His Eminence the Metropolitan of Samos, Ikaria, and Korseoi, Mr. Efsevios, during which, the Holy Relic of St. George, kept in the Megali Panagia Monastery in Samos, was placed for veneration.
