Naming Ceremony of “Taxiarhou Georgiou Papameletiou – Pedopolis ‘Theotokos'” Camp

On Wednesday, 25 July 2018, a memorial service took place in the 6th Special National Guard Battalion in honour of the fallen Officers and raiders of the 1st Amphibious Raider Battalion during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, as well as the renaming of the camp to “Taxiarhou Georgiou Papameletiou – Pedopolis ‘Theotokos'” Camp, in honour of the Commander of the heroic Battalion during the operations in Cyprus.
The ceremony was attended by the Commanding General of the I Infantry Division “SMYRNI”, Major General Petros Demestihas, the Commanding General of the 95th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “DIAGORIDON”, Major General Grigorios Roumanis, the honorary Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Athanasios Tselios, Ret., the honorary Army Inspector General and first Commander of the 1st Amphibious Raider Battalion, Lieutenant General Christos Fotopoulos, Ret., local civilian and religious authorities, as well as the wife of Brigadier General Georgios Papameletiou.
