Lieutenant General Georgios Manouras
Lieutenant General Georgios Manouras was born in Athens, in May 1967. He is from Anogia, Rethymnon. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as an Infantry Second Lieutenant.
The following year, he was selected for the Special Forces and, in the course of his career, he has served in various Special Forces Units, Formations, and Staffs, as well as of the Supreme Military Command of the Interior and Islands, as well as in positions abroad, as follows:
As a junior Officer, in Raider – Parachutist Units, in the Special Parachutist Team, and the Parachutist School.
From 1998 to 2000, he served in the International Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol School (ILRRPS) in Pfullendorf, Germany, as head of the survival course.
Upon his repatriation, he was transferred to the Unconventional Warfare Training Centre.
In 2002 he was promoted to Major, and, in the summer of 2003, he graduated from the last (59th) Training Class at the Army War College.
In 2003, he was posted to the 1st Raider – Parachutist Brigade, as staff officer of the 3rd SO, and the following year he was transferred to the Unconventional Warfare Training Centre, as Deputy Commander.
From 2005 to 2008, he was assigned to Spain, at ΝΑΤΟ CC-LAND HQ Madrid, as Section Chief Counterintelligence and Security, and from this position, he participated as head of said section during the preparation for the evaluation and certification of the newly created Joint Logistics Support Group (JLSG) of NRF 15 – 16.
In 2008, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and transferred to the Hellenic Army General Staff Special Forces Directorate, where he served as 1st Office Director for three years.
From 2011 to 2013, he was assigned command duties as Commander of the 2nd Special National Guard Battalion. Subsequently, he was assigned as Chief of Staff of the 13th Special Operations Command “SACRED BAND”.
In 2014, he was promoted to Colonel and attended the Hellenic National Defence College with the 67th Training Class and for the next two years he served as 3rd Office Director at the Special Forces Directorate of HAGS.
In 2017, he was assigned to the 80th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “KOS” as Chief of Staff.
In 2018, he was assigned to the Joint Special Operations Command of HNDGS as Chief of Staff.
In March 2019, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Director of the Plans and Exercises Directorate of HAGS (HAGS/A3).
In March 2020, he was assigned to the 80th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “KOS” as Commanding General.
In March 2021, he was assigned to the newly formed HNDGS Special Warfare Command as Chief of Staff.
In March 2022, he was promoted to Major General and assigned as Commanding General of the Joint Special Operations Command “SACRED BAND”.
In March 2023, he was assigned to the 95th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “DIAGORIDON” as Commanding General.
In March 2024, he was assigned as Deputy Commanding General of the Special Warfare Command.
In January 2025, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned as Commanding General of the HNDGS Special Warfare Command.
He is a graduate of all basic Infantry training schools, the Intelligence School, as well as numerous Special Forces courses, both domestic and abroad.
He has attended the NATO Combat Readiness Evaluation Course and the NATO Counterintelligence – Security School at Oberammergau, Germany.
He has graduated from the 5th Training Class “Reserve Captain Lorentzos Mavilis” of the “lifelong learning” postgraduate studies programme of the Institute of Continuous Education, under the auspices of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.
He holds a postgraduate degree in “Applied Strategy and International Safety” from Plymouth University.
He is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks conversational German.
He is married, with two sons.
