On Friday, 5 November 2021, a “Major Accident Response” Field Exercise was conducted at the 871st Fuel Supply Base Depot in Aspropyrgos, Attica, under the direction of the Higher Army Support Military Command “THISEAS”. The Major Accident Response is an exercise to evaluate the organisation, infrastructure, assets, and procedures to prevent and respond to Emergency Situations.
The exercise, which was conducted with personnel and assets of the Special Joint NBC Defence Company, the 725th Engineer Battalion, the 747th Special Engineer Battalion, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the Police, the Fire Service, the Municipalities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsis, and Fyli, the National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB), as well as the companies
HELLENIC PETROLEUM SA and AIR LIQUIDE HELLAS SA, included the following scenarios: fire in a wooded area and installations, partial building collapse due to earthquake and dangerous liquid – gas leak, as well as personnel rescue and evacuation to hospitals.
The exercise was attended by the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, the Commanding General of the Higher Army Support Military Command “THISEAS”, Lieutenant General Leonidas Kakavas, the Commanding General of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS”, Lieutenant General Nikolaos Flaris, the Commandant of the Hellenic National Defence College, Lieutenant General Themistoklis Grympiris, the Commander of the Hellenic Navy Logistics Command, Vice Admiral Georgios Mpamplenis HN, representatives of the Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, the Chief of the Hellenic Police Force, the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard, the Chief of the Fire Service, and the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the Deputy Head of Region of West Attica, Mr. Eleftherios Kosmopoulos, the Mayor of Elefsis, Mr. Argyris Ikonomou, the Deputy Mayors of Fyli, Mr. Michalis Ikonomakis and Mr. Athanasios Schizas, the Deputy Mayor of Aspropyrgos, Mr. Themistoklis Tsigos, the President of the National Emergency Aid Centre, Mr. Nikolaos Papaefstathiou, the Director of the Thriasio ospital, Mr. Dimitrios Antoniou, and representatives of the companies HELLENIC PETROLEUM SA and AIR LIQUIDE HELLAS SA.
