On Tuesday 24 September 2024, within the framework of the designation of 2024 by the Hellenic Army General Staff as the “Year for Prevention – Adaptation – Response to the Impacts of Climate Change”, a training Conference on this subject was held at the Amphitheatre “LTGEN THOMAS ADAMOU” at the headquarters of the 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ in the presence of the Commander of the 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS” Lieutenant General Dimokritos Konstandakos.
The purpose of the Conference was to train and inform participants about matters relating to the impacts, the challenges and the solutions regarding climate change based on scientific evidence and developments, about the environmental and social impacts, as well as innovations and new technologies.
At the opening of the Conference, the Commander of the 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ Lieutenant General Dimokritos Konstandakos gave an address, followed by speeches delivered by the Professor of the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University, Mr. Ioannis Kalavrouziotis, the Assistant Professors of the Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Thessaly Dr. Dimitrios Papanastasiou and Dr. Dorothea Kasiteropoulou, as well as by the Lieutenant Colonel Achilleas Mais, Engineer Directorate Staff Officer of the 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ.
The Conference was attended by Military and Civilian Personnel of the 1st ARMY/EU-OHQ, members of the personnel of other Armed Forces Branches and Security Forces based in the city of Larissa, as well as representatives from Local Authorities – Entities.
