Class of 2028 First Year Cadets Oath-taking Ceremony

On Friday 20 December 2024, the oath-taking ceremony of the Class of 2028 “Lord Byron” first year Cadets took place in the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon).

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, and the Chief of the Cypriot National Guard General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas.

The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigorios Konstandellos, the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, Mr. Andonios, the Metropolitan of Messogea and Lavreotiki, Mr. Nikolaos, the members of the Supreme Military Council, the Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General (ret.) Georgios Kabas, the former Minister of Civil Protection and Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General (ret.) Haralambos Lalousis, the honorary Chief of the Cypriot National Guard General Staff, General (ret.) Georgios Basiakoulis, the Director of the Armaments Directorate, Rear Admiral (ENG) Vasilios Vasilogiannakopoulos HN, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Air Force Air Support Command, Major General (HAF) Dimitrios Fanaras, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, the Commander of the Hellenic National Defence College, Colonel (Police) Anastasia Mylona, as representative of the Chief of Police, and the Commandant of the Fire Service Academy, Major General Konstantinos St. Theofilopoulos, as representative of the Chief of the Fire Service.

Representatives of Local Governments, Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, Ambassadors, Defence and Military Attachés of Foreign Countries, retired Officers, academic authorities, and the families of the oath-taking Cadets also attended the ceremony.

The oath-taking ceremony of first year Evelpidon Cadets is a day of honour of the Academy, and their oath constitutes the beginning of a new path, as it was pointed out in the Order of the Day of the Commandant of the Academy, Major General Anastasios Polychronou, who urged them to feel proud, as that was the point when they officially became members of the Hellenic Army Academy family; an Academy with a major significance, honourable history, and contribution to Country.

In total, 130 First Year Cadets took the oath, 93 of which were from Greece, 24 from Cyprus, 1 from Albania, 4 from Armenia, 3 from Jordan, 1 from Moldova, 2 from Senegal, and 2 from Tunisia.
