Infantry Colonel Stergios Anastasiadis and Infantry Major Ilias Karaiosif, who distinguished themselves at ultramarathons were awarded on Wednesday 30 May 2018 by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis.
Infantry Colonel Stergios Anastasiadis began the ultramarathons in 2000 and since then has participated in European and World championships and in tens of long distance races, up to 255 kilometres. He has completed the international “SPARTATHLON” race nine times, at a distance of 246 kilometres, finishing three times as the first Greek.
Infantry Major Ilias Karaiosif began the ultramarathons in 2008 and since then he has participated in tens of long distance races, up to 400 kilometres. He has completed the “SPARTATHLON” international race three times and finished second at the “DOLICHOS” international race, at a distance of 255 kilometres.
The two members of the Army demonstrate with their successes, in the best possible way, that tireless daily effort, morality and competitive spirit are qualities which are rewarded, thus constituting an excellent example, for the whole personnel, promoting the Army, the Armed Forces and our Homeland.
