On Tuesday, 26 June 2018, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis awarded the Commendation for “Valour and Honour” to the Professor of Medicine, Doctor Leonidas Papastamatiou, following a relevant decision of the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Kammenos.
Mr. Leonidas Papastamatiou made a donation, in memory of his wife Hera Papastamatiou, for the overall renovation of the 5A Wing at the 401 Army General Hospital of Athens, which he devoted to the “Fighters of the Aegean”. Through this donation the Pathologic-Anatomic laboratory of the hospital was equipped with modern equipment and medical books, after the wish of his ever memorable wife.
Mr. Papastamatiou, obviously touched, expressed his gratitude for the Commendation Medal, and offered to the personnel of the General Staff attending the ceremony, the “Hymn to Freedom” by Dionissios Solomos. His donation shows in the most obvious way his love to his fellowmen, to the Armed Forces and to our country in general.
