Activation of a New Range and Proving Ground on Thasos Island

On Thursday, 30 August 2018, a new range and proving ground was activated on Thasos island with the conduct of test certification fires (CQB) by the National Guardsmen of the National Guard Company of Thasos.
The new range was constructed to meet the training needs of the National Guardsmen of the National Guard Company of Thasos. The range is approximately 4.5 acres. The earthworks and technical works started on 22 November 2017 and were completed on 31 May 2018. The range includes 3 firing lines (100, 200, and 300 m), bullet trap, as well as 8 positions for targets. Next to it is a fire and movement proving ground for 5 men.
The test fire, which was organised by the 10th Infantry Regiment within the framework of the testing of the new range, was attended by the Commanding General of C Army Corps “MEGAS ALEXANDROS”, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Bikos, and the Commander of the 10th Infantry Regiment, Colonel Alexandros Papadopoulos.
