On Friday 09 May 2025, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Dendias, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence, General Dimitrios Houpis, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, attended the Conference regarding the “Contribution of Philhellenes to the Establishment of the Regular Hellenic Army and Navy”, which was held at the Hellenic Military Academy and was co-organised by the Philhellenism Museum and the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism.
Before the beginning of the Conference, a Memorial Service was officiated at the Monument of Heroes, 9 gun salutes were fired in memory of the heroic Philhellenes, and wreaths were laid on behalf of the political and military leadership.
In the beginning of the Conference, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Dendias made a brief address.
The conference was also attended by MP for Piraeus Mr. Ioannis Tragakis, as representative of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Mayor of Vari, Voula, Vouliagmeni Mr. Grigorios Konstandellos, the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Hellenikon, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, Mr. Andonios, the President of the Court of Revisions, Court of Revisions Judge (Grade A) Michail Tsiloglou, the Vice President of the Council of State Mr. Dimitrios Emmanouilidis, the President of the Academy of Athens, Mr, Michail Tiverios, the President of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy Mr. Michail Diamesis, representatives of the Chiefs of Hellenic Navy and Air Force General Staffs, the Civil Administrator of Mount Athos and honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General (ret.) Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Mayor of the Holy City of Missolonghi, Mr. Spyridon Diamandopoulos, the Mayor of Vyronas Mr. Alexios Sotirakopoulos, Embassy, Military, and Defence Attachés, representatives of institutions and local governments, professors, and Hellenic Military Academy Cadets, as well as other guests.
The Founder and President of the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism / Philhellenism Museum Konstandinos Velentzas, the Associate Professor Mr. Nikolaos Tobros, the Assistant Professors Mr. Nikolaos Kanellopoulos, Ms. Christina – Panagiota Manolea, Ms. Sylvia Katounda, and Ms. Varvara Spinoula made speeches during the conference.
After the speeches, a recitation of the biographies of the fallen Philhellenes being honoured took place. The conference concluded with the presentation of commemorative awards to the 25 descendants of the fallen Philhellenes.
