On Wednesday 23 April 2025, the Ceremony to celebrate the Great Martyr Saint George, Patron Saint of the Army, was held in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, representing the President of the Hellenic Government, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitrios Choupis and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, at the Headquarters of the Infantry School in “MAJOR VELISSARIOS IOANNIS” Camp in Chalkida.
The Ceremony was honoured with the presence of:
• The MP for Evia Ms. Konstantina Karampatsoli, representing the President of the Hellenic Parliament;
• Representatives of Parliamentary Parties;
• The Mayor of Chalkida, Ms. Elena Vaka;
• His Eminence the Metropolitan of Halkis, Istiaia and Northern Sporades Islands Mr. Chrysostomos, who officiated the ceremony;
• The Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras;
• The Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General Dimosthenis Grigoriadis;
• Honorary Chiefs of the Hellenic Army General Staff;
• Members of the Higher Military Council;
• Rear Admiral Christos Fragkias, representing the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard;
• The Commander of the Police Directorate of Evia, Brigadier General Konstantinos Pelekanos, representing the Chief of the Hellenic Police;
• The Commander of the Fire Brigade of Evia, Brigadier Loukas Moutselos, representing the Chief of the Fire Department;
• The Deputy Regional Governor of Evia, Mr. Georgios Kelaiditis.
After the end of the ceremony, a demonstration of weapon systems and assets took place, during which the M1117 Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle, the M1117 Retrofitted Wheeled Reconnaissance Armored Vehicle equipped with Electronic Surveillance Means, supported by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, the Utility Task Vehicle “POLARIS MRZR” type, and the Snipers’ Section mounted on a special surveillance and recognition motorcycle were presented.
