On Friday 31 August 2018, the event on innovation on the subject “Do You Have the Idea that will Improve our Army?”, which was organised by the Hellenic Army General Staff and hosted by the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), was concluded.
The event was the natural continuation of a series of actions on innovation undertaken since last year by the Army, thus proving the importance laid by the leadership in this area. (Events in HAGS for the emergence of new ideas, presentations of innovative ideas and technologies by Military Plants to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) and the Career NCO School, establishment of a new Directorate in HAGS for innovation matters, etc.).
The jury received 96 ideas, of which the best 39 were qualified and presented. The 3 best ideas were rewarded with token money prizes.
In his address during the conclusion of the event, the Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, stressed, among others, the following:
– The pursuit, through the participation of all military and civilian personnel and the networking of the best in each field, to change the structures and procedures in order to achieve a more flexible and modern Army, which will serve the country in the best possible way.
– The ambition to unlock the personnel’s creativity and innovation horizons.
– The need to find effective and often radical solutions by thinking out of the box.
– The importance of the involvement of National Guardsmen and reservists in the whole process.
– The direct link between the Army’s deterrent capability and the adoption of innovative ideas and solutions in all fields.
Finally, the Chief congratulated the Signals Directorate of HAGS for organising and the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) for hosting the event, stressing that it constitutes an important legacy for similar actions in the near future.
