Development of the Energy Management System in Army Camps

The Hellenic Army General Staff developed, in accordance with the environmental policy of the Ministry of National Defence and LIFE 11 European Program, apart from the constant actions that it performed to protect the environment, with a sense of duty and respect towards the energy resources management, the Energy Management System, at the “Second Lieutenant Theodoros Kandilaptis” Camp in Alexandroupolis. In August 2018, it was inspected by a private certification agency and received an ISO 50001:2011 certification.
– The Energy Management System, that is now implemented in accordance with the ELOT EN ISO 50001:2011 standard, includes among others:
– The recording of Camps’ energy consumption and the submission of proposals regarding its reduction.
– The Army’s personnel training with regard to Energy Management System procedures.
This certification improves the Army’s environmental performance, since it is an addition to the similar certification of “MEDICAL LIEUTENANT CONSTANTINOS TRIANTAFYLLIDIS” Camp, in Xanthi, which already utilises the Energy Management System of the European Defence Agency.
The Hellenic Army General Staff, realising its responsibilities and obligations towards mankind, the society and the sustainable energy resources management, pledges to continue its actions, which aim at reducing its energy imprint.
