On Thursday 22 June 2023, the graduation and oath-taking ceremony of the new 2nd Lieutenants – Class 2023 “1st Lieutenant Antonios Karambelas” took place at the Hellenic Army Academy in Vari – Attica, in the presence of Her Excellence the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who presented the oath-takers with their swords.
The following individuals attended the ceremony: the Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Minister of Citizen Protection Mr Charalambos Lalousis, the Chief of HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Mayor of Vari, Voula and Vouliagmeni Mr Grigorios Konstantellos, the Metropolitan Bishop of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Vari Mr Antonios, the Regional Vice Governor of Eastern Attica Athanasios Avgerinos as representative of the Regional Governor of Attica, foreign states Ambassadors, the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis, the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis, the Deputy Chief of the National Guard General Staff Lieutenant General Loukas Chatzimichail as representative of the Chief of the National Guard General Staff, members of the Higher Military Council, the District Attorney of the Court of Revision Revisionist Α΄ Charalambos Karypidis, the Inspector General of the Hellenic Police in Southern Greece Lieutenant General Nikolaos Spanoudakis as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Police, the Α’ Deputy Chief of Port Authority-Hellenic Coastguard Vice Admiral Alexandros Tselikis as representative of the Chief of Port Authority-Hellenic Coastguard, the Deputy Chief of the Fire Service Lieutenant General Marios Apostolidis as representative of the Chief of the Fire Service and the Deputy Chief of HAFGS Major General Antonios Panidis as representative of the Chief of HAFGS.
Other attendees were the Honorary Chiefs of HAGS, representatives of Political Parties and the Local Self-government, Defence Attachés, active and retired Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, descendants of the hero of Class 2023 “1st Lieutenant Antonios Karambelas”, as well as relatives of the new 2nd Lieutenants.
In total, 177 2nd Lieutenants took the oath, of whom 146 were from Greece, 25 were from Cyprus, 1 was from Albania, 1 was from Armenia, 2 were from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1 was from Moldavia and 1 was from Senegal.
