Annual Trisagion and Wreath Laying in Memory of the Fallen Officers at the Sarantaporo - Elassona

On Thursday, 19 April 2018, the annual trisagion and wreath laying took place, at the location of the Monument for the rest of the souls and to pay tribute to the four members of the Army, who were fatally injured in the line of duty, with a helicopter of Army Aviation, at Sarantaporo - Elassona on 19 April 2017.

The Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lt General Alkiviadis Stefanis attended the ceremony, along with the Commander of the Army, the families of the deceased and representatives from the Region, the Local Self-Government, the Association of Retired Members of the Military, the Religious, Military and Political Authorities of the area, as well as citizens from the SARANTAPORO village.

Hall renaming ceremony in the Hellenic 1st Army HQ

On Thursday, 19 April, 2018, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, attended the naming ceremony of two halls of the Hellenic 1st Army/EU-OHQ, to pay tribute to two of the Officers who served in its Headquarters and were fatally injured on duty on board an Army Aviation helicopter, on 19 April, 2017, in Sarantaporo, Elassona.

The following two halls were renamed:

    • The Hall of Honours was renamed “LT GEN IOANNIS TZANIDAKIS HALL OF HONOURS”.
    • The Auditorium was renamed “LT GEN THOMAS ADAMOS AUDITORIUM”.

The ceremony which was held in the Headquarters was attended by the families of the fallen officers, the Hellenic 1st Army Commander Dimokritos Zervakis, as well as the entire personnel of the Headquarters.

Chief of HAGS meets the Ambassador of Austria

On Thursday, 12 April, 2008, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis met with the Ambassador of Austria to Athens, Ms. Andrea Ikić – Böhm who was accompanied by Austria’s Defence Attaché to Greece Colonel (ARMY) Nikolaus Rottenberger. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest.

Afterwards, Ms. Andrea Ikić-Böhm and Colonel (ARMY) Nikolaus Rottenberger visited the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) and they were briefed on its organisation and operation, on the military training and the academic education, the international activities and cooperations, as well as on the outreach activities of the Academy.

Visit of the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff to the 1st Raiders – Parachutists Brigade “EL ALAMEIN”

On Tuesday, April 17, 2018 the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, visited the Headquarters of the 1st Raiders – Parachutists Brigade “EL ALAMEIN” at Rentina, Salonica.

The Chief visited the Headquarters, the Unconventional Warfare Training Center and the D’ Raiders Battalion.

In the context of the visit, he attended training activities of the Snipers School, of the Raiders School, as well as training on Raiding subjects of the 2018 B’ Enlistment Series.

Afterwards, he delivered a speech to the personnel, congratulating them for their high morale, the professionalism and the high level of acceptance and affection they enjoy on behalf of the Greek society.

The message conveyed by the Chief to our Raiders is summed up in the phrase:

Address of the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff to the National Defence College

On Thursday, April 12, 2018 the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, visited the National Defence College and delivered a lecture to its students, having as a topic the  ‘’Challenges, Perspectives and Strategic Goals of the Army’’.

The Chief in his lecture highlighted among other things:

    • The dimension of the Jointness in the Armed Forces, as well as the role of the ground factor in this context.

    • The necessity to exceed the old ideas, with new innovative ideas and actions shaping the future of the Army.

    • The significance of consistency between words and actions as well as of the personal example, as a basic leadership principle at all command echelons.
