Chief HAGS Attends Field Exercise “TAGMATARHIS (PB) MINOTAKIS EMMANOUIL” in the Area of Responsibility of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division

On Sunday, 07 October 2018, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, attended Field Exercise “TAGMATARHIS (PB) MINOTAKIS EMMANOUIL”, which took place within the framework of National Joint Exercise “PARMENION – 2018” in the Area of Responsibility of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”.

The Exercise was conducted in the area of Kalyves, Evros, and is named after Artillery Major Minotakis Emmanouil. Major Minotakis represented Greece to the tripartite Committee for the surveying of the border, following the signing of the Lausanne Treaty (1923), and decisively contributed to keeping the Evros river delta area (1000 hectares) within Hellenic territory.

The activity, except for the men of the Covering Battalion, also included National Guardsmen of the National Guard Battalion of Feres.

After the end of the exercise, the Chief congratulated all participants, who executed a very demanding exercise in an exemplary manner. He stressed that the career personnel, Reservists, and National Guardsmen of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division continue the work of Major (Art) Minotakis to secure the territorial integrity of our country.

Finally, he stressed the importance of offensive spirit, a sign of the high morale of our National Guardsmen, who constitute a strong deterrence force in the border area.
