The Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis conducted a visit to the Area of Responsibility of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia – NRDC/GR, from 10 to 11 November 2025, accompanied by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia/NRDC-GR “MEGAS ALEXANDROS” Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis.
In particular, the Chief visited the HQ of the 9th Motorised Brigade “ADRIANOUPOLI”, on Monday 10 November 2025, at the “MAKEDONOMACHON” Camp in Kozani, the HQ of the 1st Infantry Regiment at the “LT COL (INF) PERIKLIS SKIADOPOULOS” Camp in Florina, as well as Units and military installations.
During his visit, the Chief was briefed on the mission, the operational and training activities, he provided guidelines to the personnel and congratulated it on the work achieved.
Anniversary events for the 113 Years since the Liberation of Kastoria took place on Tuesday 11 November 2025, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Thanasis Davakis as representative of the Hellenic Government and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis.
The festivities included, among others, the celebration of Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Virgin Mary of Mouzeviki – Patron Saint, Saint Minas of Kastoria and procession of the Holy Icon of Saint Minas the Wonderworker and His Holy Relics from the Holy Church of Saint Minas to the Holy Metropolitan Church of Kastoria. A Memorial Service was later conducted at the Makedonomachon Square, along with wreath-laying and then a parade followed along the Megalou Alexandrou Avenue.
Other attendees to the anniversary events were: the MP Ms Maria Antoniou, the Head of the Western Macedonia Region Mr Giorgos Amanitidis, the Mayor of Kastoria Mr Ioannis Korentsidis, the Metropolitan Bishop of Kastoria Mr Kallinikos, the Deputy Head of the Kastoria Regional Unit Mr Dimitrios Savvopoulos, the Metropolitan Bishop of Alexandroupoli Mr Anthimos, representatives of the Local Self-government and Church Authorities, active and retired officers of the Armed and Security Forces and other guests.
