The general offensive launched by the Balkan League (Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro) against the Ottoman Empire in October 1912 (First Balkan War) ended with the wide-ranging prevalence of the allied arms. However, the Treaty of London of May 17th 1913 on the conclusion of the war, the adjustment of the territories detached by the defeated Ottoman Empire and their division to the winning countries, did not cement the final end of the Balkan conflict. Bulgaria’s demands against Serbia and Greece caused the breakdown in the relationship between the former allies, resulting in the conclusion of a defensive alliance between Serbia and Greece in Thessaloniki on May 19th 1913 on the mutual response to the Bulgarian threat. Indeed, Bulgaria’s demands in Macedonia region soon developed into serious border incidents. The surprise attack by Bulgaria on Greek and Serbian border posts at the same time on June 16th 1913 at 0830 hours, without declaring any war in advance, gave rise to resorting to weapons once again, triggering the outbreak of the Second Balkan War. A cruel although short war, whose end found Greece on the victory stand again, paving the way for the final fulfillment of national aspirations.
