On Monday 05 May 2025, the Commanding General of US Army Forces Command General Andrew Poppas paid an official visit to Greece, following an invitation extended by Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis.
During their meeting, which took place in an excellent atmosphere, the strengthening of the bonds between the two armies was discussed, to be achieved through:
- Exchanging views on matters of mutual interest.
- Looking for new sectors and fields for cooperation.
In the context of his visit, General Andrew Poppas met with Inspector General of the Army – Deputy Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis. Afterwards, he visited the Hellenic Army Academy (HAA) at Vari-Attica, where he was briefed on the work of the Academy, and toured its venues.
On Thursday 08 May 2025, he visited the HQ of the Hellenic Army War College in Thessaloniki, where he was briefed on the training provided by the college, toured its venues and addressed a speech to the students.
Then, he made a courtesy visit to the HQ of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR “MEGAS ALEXANDROS” in Thessaloniki, where he was received by the Commanding General of 1 st Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS” Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, and the Commanding General of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR Lieutenant General Athanassios Garinis.
