The oath-taking ceremony of the Hellenic Army Academy’s 1st Year Cadets – Class 2029 “Major (Arty) PETROS SAROGLOS” took place on Friday 19 December 2025, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Thanasis Davakis, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitrios Choupis and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, on the premises of the Hellenic Army Academy (HAA) in Vari-Attica.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Vari, Voula and Vouliagmeni Mr Grigorios Konstantellos, the Metropolitan Bishop of Mesogea and Lavreotiki Mr Nikolaos, the members of the Supreme Military Council, the Honorary Chief of HAGS General (ret.) Georgios Kambas, the Honorary Chief of the Hellenic National Guard General Staff General (ret.) Georgios Basiakoulis, Colonel (Arty) Andreas Prodromou, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic National Guard General Staff Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, the Commander of the Naval Training Command Rear Admiral Spyridon Tsiafoutis HN, as representative of the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, the Commandant of the Hellenic Air Force Academy Major General (Pilot) Mattheos Kanoupakis, as representative of the Chief of HAFGS Lieutenant General (Pilot) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, the Commandant of the Hellenic Police Academy Brigadier General Georgios Klitorakis as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Police Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, the Commandant of the Fire Service Academy Major General (Fire Service) Dimitrios Sarafis, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Fire Service and the Deputy Inspector General of the Hellenic Port Authority – Coastguard Commodore (Port Authority) Konstantinos Pardalis, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Port Authority – Coastguard Vice Admiral (Port Authority) Tryfon Kontizas.
Other attendees were representatives of the Local Self-government, Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, Ambassadors, Foreign States’ Defence and Military Attachés, retired Officers, authorities of academia, as well as familiar individuals of the oath-taking 1st year Cadets.
The oath-taking of the 1st year Cadets constitutes a day of honour and celebration for the Academy and their oath constitutes the beginning of a new course, as it was remarked in the Order of the Day of the Academy’s Commandant Major General Anastasios Polychronos, to motivate them to feel proud, since they officially become members of the Hellenic Army Academy’s family, an academy of particular gravitas, honoured history and incomparable contribution to the Homeland.
174 1st Year Cadets took the oath in total , of whom 132 were from Greece, 27 from Cyprus, 6 from Armenia, 1 from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1 from Zambia, 2 from Jordan, 1 from Moldavia, 2 from Senegal and 2 from Tunisia.
