High Angle Fires and Maneuvering Units Support at the same time

During the period from June 04th to June 06th, training in the coordination of and provision of support to Maneuvering Units was conducted in the Range of “PETROTA”, with the participation of all systems and high angle firing assets (MLRS, RM-70, PhZ-2000, M109, M106) from the Hellenic 1 Army Corps/EU-OHQ with deployment of radar systems and meteorological stations.

For the first time ever, the said fire was combined with the support of maneuvering troops (Infantry, Armor) activated in the area of responsibility of the D’ Army Corps, thus simulating actual conditions.

During this period, training was conducted under realistic conditions and the entire procedure for targeting and provision of supporting fires to forward Commands was evaluated. Improved techniques and procedures for target engagements have been implemented.

The above activity was attended by the Commander of the Hellenic 1 Army Corps/EU-OHQ, Lieutenant General Dimokritos Zervakis, and the Commander of the D’ Army Corps, Lieutenant General Georgios Kambas. The high level of professionalism, the morale and the zeal of the personnel of participating troops was confirmed, while the importance of providing supporting fire and coordinating efforts with maneuvering troops was highlighted.
