On Thursday, 20 November 2025, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, who was accompanied by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean “AEGEAS”, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakentis, a ceremony was held for the inauguration of the new building of the Child Care Centre at the headquarters of the 95th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “DIAGORIDON” in Rhodes, which was constructed with a donation from the Vasilios G. Melas Foundation.
The new modern child care centre is located in Camp “KATEHAKI”, has a capacity for 40 children, and is fully equipped and adapted to the needs of pre-school age children.
The ceremony was attended by the Metropolitan of Rhodes Mr. Kyrillos, the former Minister of Citizen Protection and Honorary Chief HAGS, General Charalampos Lalousis (ret.), the Alternate Head of the Region of South Aegean Mr. Apostolis Asprakis, the Deputy Head of Region for the Regional Unit of the Dodecanese Mr. Christos Efstratiou, the Deputy Mayor of Rhodes Ms. Savvina Papageorgiou, the President of the Vasilios G. Melas Foundation, Mr. Georgios L. Melas, the President of the Union of Retired Army Officers, Rhodes Chapter, Lieutenant General Minas Papadakis (ret.), members of the Foundation’s Board, active duty and retired Armed and Security Forces Officers, and other guests.
