
HASMC
The Higher Army Support Military Command constitutes the only Major Formation for Logistics in the Army. The area of responsibility lines up north of the island of LEFKADA and the administrative limits of CENTRAL GREECE and extends to the south, including the whole of Central Greece, the Peloponnese and with the islands of Kythera – Antikythera as its southernmost point.

The emblem of the Higher Army Support Military Command depicts Theseus at the age of 16, taking the sword and the golden sandals, placed there by his father Aegeus and it symbolises the decisiveness and the capability of the Higher Army Support Military Command to undertake, and through the utilisation of all available assets, fulfil its mission.
It includes a phrase from the ILIAD “Αλκή Κράτος Εστί Μέγιστον” meaning “Bravery is a Great Strength”, which symbolises the will and the Strength of our personnel, to fulfil the assigned duties.

Our Mission
- Personnel training – Material maintenance.
- Army Logistics Support with the realisation of distribution, escalation, stock-keeping of supplies – materials and provision of healthcare.
- Realisation of Procurements – Contracts for the Army with the timely procurement of necessary supplies – materials and the monitoring of the Contracts’ implementation.
- Administration – Control of Military Factories for the increase of productivity and the improvement of infrastructures.
- Command, control of Formations – Commands – Conduct of Rear Area Security Operations – Natural Disasters Management in its Area of Responsibility.


Characteristics
Logistics in the Army constitute a decisive factor for the conduct of land operations and they provide the required support for the preservation of engagement of the land but often of the other forces too (naval, air), throughout the spectrum of operational environment. In that sense, it constitutes a force multiplier and it increases the morale and the Combative Capability of the troops. The Higher Army Support Military Command, as the only Major Formation for Logistics, materialises the strategic options on Logistics issues at the operational level, while it provides support at the tactical level throughout the Greek territory.
Apart from its significant operational role, the Higher Army Support Military Command, with its subordinate formations, proceeds to actions, such as:
- Hospital treatment services, pharmaceutical support for the members and their families.
- Disposal – Maintenance of Military Residencies and Guesthouses.
- Operation of Daycares.
- Upgrade works for the infrastructures of its Area of Responsibility.
- Operation of the Summer Camps.
- Operation of the Army Units Supply Centre along with its branches.
- Secondment of personnel for the benefit of the Health Centres and the National Emergency Aid Centre.
- Contribution to the prevention of natural disasters.
- Participation in local social, cultural, religious celebrations.
Historical Background
1955
The Higher Army Support Military Command was established in May 1955 as the “Athens Military Command”
1979
In April 1979, it was renamed to “Military Command of the Interior”, while in June 1979 it was again renamed to “Athens Military Command”.
2004
On 1 May 2004, in the context of the Army’s reorganisation, it assumed its current name and from 1 Jan 05 it was assigned the overall responsibility of the Army’s Logistics support, as a Higher Logistics Formation.
2011
