Who We Are

Finance
Corp

The Finance Corps is the first established Corps in the Hellenic Army.
Ioannis Kapodistrias, upon the establishment of the Regular Army in 1828, provided for the establishment of the first finance Corps under the name “General Quartermaster’s Office”.
After constant reestablishments and the issuance of the Regulation of operation of the finance inspectorates in 1882, during the term of Prime Minister Trikoupis, the Finance Corps emerged for the first time with that exact capacity and title.
In 1914, the Finance Corps was abolished and the Logistics Corps was established, with officers transferred from the arms and from the abolished Finance Corps.

In 1946, the Logistics Corps was abolished and the Z’ Branch of Finance Services was established up until 1949, when the Finance Services Corps was established. Finally, in 1970 with the Legislative Decree 562/1970, the Finance Services Corps was renamed to the Finance Corps and the Hellenic Combat Support Officers Military Academy was established. The Finance Corps has historically contributed greatly to the public commodity of national defence, the cost of which is represented by defence and other military expenses with procedures which minimise the costs and maximise the result in all levels.

The Finance Corps emblem

The emblem of the Finance Corps consists of a bee with a laurels wreath and it represents the dual mission of the Corps. The sabre symbolises the fighting spirit while the pen symbolises the scientific mission of the Corps Members in combination with the written maxim “Δαπάνη όπλα Ωφελεί” (through expenses the arms are rendered useful), taken from the speech of the king of Sparta Archidamus addressed to the ecclesia (assembly) of the Lacedaemonians, just before the commencement of the Peloponnesian War (Thucydides, Peloponnesian War, Volume A, Chapter 83) constitutes a beacon and a source of inspiration of the personnel for the fulfilment of their mission.
