Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff

Georgios Kostidis

Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis was born in 1965 in Kastoria. He was admitted in 1983 to the Hellenic Military Academy from which he graduated in 1987 with the rank of Second Lieutenant of the Armoured Forces.

He has attended all Armour courses, as well as the Supreme Army War College and the Hellenic National Defence College.

During his career, he has served in Armour Units and, as a Commander, he has served in the 289th Medium Tank Company (Samothrace), the 6th Medium Tank Battalion (Vyronia), the 212th Medium Tank Battalion (Lagos), and a ΝΑΤΟ Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (Afghanistan).

He has served as staff officer in ISAF-HQ Operations in Afghanistan, Training and Operations Staff Office Director of the 7th Mechanised Brigade, Operations Staff Officer of the South Eastern Europe Brigade, Training and Exercises Section Chief NRDC-GR, Operational Planning Chair Director in the Supreme Joint War College, Deputy Commander of the 34th Mechanised Brigade, and Director of the Operations Directorate of the Hellenic First Field Army/European Union Operations Headquarters.

In 2017, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed Command of an Operational Formation abroad.

In 2019, he was promoted to Major General and assigned as Commanding General of the Service Support Division. In March 2020, he was assigned as Deputy Commanding General of D’ Army Corps.

On 09 March 2021, he was assigned as Commandant of the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon).

On 08 March 2022, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned as Commanding General of the Supreme Hellenic Army Support Command.
On 12 January 2024, upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, he assumed the duties of Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff.

Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis has been awarded all decorations, commendations, and medals provided for his rank.

He holds a Masters Degree in Management of Operational Planning from Nottingham Trent University.

He speaks English fluently.

He is married and has two sons.

Lieutenant General

Andreas Koronakis

Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis was born in Athens in 1964. He was admitted to the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) in 1983 and graduated in 1987, as Second Lieutenant of the Engineer Corps.

As a Junior Officer, he served in Units of the Engineer Corps as Platoon Leader and Company Commander.

He has graduated from all the required schools of the Engineer Corps. He has graduated from the Engineer Officers Technical Training School.

In 2007, he graduated from the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College.

During his career as a Junior Officer, he served as Engineers Commander of the II Mechanised Infantry Division and of B’ Army Corps, as Director of the 736th Military Works Directorate and as Commander of the Engineer Corps Training Centre.

Upon being promoted to Colonel in 2012, he attended the Hellenic National Defence College, and subsequently assumed the duties of Engineers Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands.

In 2017, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed the duties of Director General of the Autonomous Officers’ Building Organisation.

In 2020, he was promoted to Major General and in 2021 he was appointed C’ Staff Director of Hellenic Army General Staff.

On 17 January 2023, upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assumed the duties of Deputy Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff.

On 11 January 2025 upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council he assumed the duties of Army Inspector General – Deputy Chief of HAGS.

On 11 January 2026 upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council he assumed the duties of Deputy Chief of HAGS.

Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis has been awarded all decorations, commendations and medals, as such are provided for by his rank.

He has two children:

Αντιστράτηγος

Σταύρος Παπασταθόπουλος

Ο Αντιστράτηγος Σταύρος Παπασταθόπουλος γεννήθηκε στη Λευκωσία Κύπρου, το 1966. Εισήχθη στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων το 1984 από την οποία αποφοίτησε το 1988, ως Ανθυπολοχαγός Πυροβολικού.

Μέχρι και το βαθμό του Ταγματάρχη (1988 – 2006) υπηρέτησε σε διάφορες Μονάδες Πυροβολικού, καθώς επίσης και ως Διμοιρίτης στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων και ως Εκπαιδευτής στη Σχολή Πυροβολικού. Επίσης υπηρέτησε σε διάφορες επιτελικές θέσεις και ως Υπασπιστής του Αρχηγού ΓΕΕΘΑ. Με την προαγωγή του στο βαθμό του Αντισυνταγματάρχη (2007) ανέλαβε τη διοίκηση της 163 Α/Κ Μοίρας Μέσου Πυροβολικού (PzH 2000 GR), με το τέλος της οποίας (2009) μετατέθηκε στη Στρατιωτική Αντιπροσωπεία της Χώρας μας στη Στρατιωτική Επιτροπή του ΝΑΤΟ, στις Βρυξέλλες. Με τη λήξη της θητείας του στη θέση αυτή (2012) τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής του Επιτελικού Γραφείου του Αρχηγού ΓΕΣ, όπου και προήχθη στο βαθμό του Συνταγματάρχη. Ακολούθως (2014), τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής Πυροβολικού της ΧΙΙ Μ/Κ Μεραρχίας Πεζικού «ΕΒΡΟΥ» και στη συνέχεια (2015) στη Διεύθυνση Σχεδίων και Ασκήσεων του ΓΕΣ, αρχικά ως Τμηματάρχης Εθνικών και Διεθνών Ασκήσεων και ακολούθως (2016) ως Τμηματάρχης Διεθνών Σχεδίων – Διεθνών Επιχειρήσεων. Το 2017 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Ταξιάρχου και τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής της Διεύθυνσης Αμυντικού Σχεδιασμού και Προγραμματισμού του ΓΕΣ. Το 2019 ανέλαβε τη διοίκηση της 96 Ανωτέρας Διοίκησης Ταγμάτων Εθνοφυλακής «ΧΙΟΣ», ενώ το 2020 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Υποστρατήγου τοποθετούμενος ως Διευθυντής του Δ’ Κλάδου του ΓΕΣ (Αμυντικός Σχεδιασμός-Οργάνωση). Ακολούθως, το 2021 ανέλαβε τη διοίκηση της ΧΙΙ Μ/Κ Μεραρχίας Πεζικού «ΕΒΡΟΥ» και στη συνέχεια, το 2022, του ανατέθηκε η διοίκηση της Στρατιωτικής Σχολής Ευελπίδων. Στις 17 Ιανουαρίου 2023 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Αντιστρατήγου και τοποθετήθηκε στη θέση του Επιτελάρχη του ΓΕΣ. Στις 15 Ιανουαρίου 2024 τοποθετήθηκε στη θέση του Διοικητή του Δ’ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ». Στις 11 Ιανουαρίου 2025, του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή 1ης ΣΤΡΑΤΙΑΣ/EU-OHQ και στις 11 Ιανουαρίου 2026 τοποθετήθηκε στην θέση του Γενικού Επιθεωρητή Στρατού / Διοικητή EU – OHQ.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της σταδιοδρομίας του αποφοίτησε από όλα τα προβλεπόμενα στρατιωτικά σχολεία του Πυροβολικού, καθώς επίσης και από τη Σχολή Επιτελών του Στρατού Ξηράς, την Ανώτατη Σχολή Πολέμου, τη Διακλαδική Σχολή Επιτελών Άμυνας και τη Σχολή Εθνικής Άμυνας. Επίσης αποφοίτησε από το Βασικό Τμήμα της Σχολής Χημικού Πολέμου του Στρατού των Η.Π.Α και από τη Σχολή Διοίκησης και Επιτελών του Στρατού των Η.Π.Α (διά αλληλογραφίας).
Επιπρόσθετα, ο Αντιστράτηγος Σταύρος Παπασταθόπουλος κατέχει μεταπτυχιακούς τίτλους σπουδών από το Νaval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California – Η.Π.Α [Master of Arts in Security Studies (Defense Decision – Making and Planning)], κατόπιν φοιτήσεώς του στο εν λόγω Πανεπιστήμιο την περίοδο 2003-2004 και από το Plymouth University – Hνωμένο Βασίλειο (Master of Arts in Applied Strategy and International Security), μέσω της φοίτησής του στη Σχολή Εθνικής Άμυνας, την περίοδο 2013-2014. Επίσης, είναι υποψήφιος Διδάκτορας του Τμήματος Διεθνών, Ευρωπαϊκών και Περιφερειακών Σπουδών του Παντείου Πανεπιστημίου Κοινωνικών και Πολιτικών Επιστημών.

Τέλος, είναι κάτοχος πτυχίων γλωσσομάθειας της Αγγλικής γλώσσας (άριστη γνώση) και της Γαλλικής γλώσσας (καλή γνώση).

Σε ό,τι αφορά στην οικογενειακή του κατάσταση, ο Αντιστράτηγος Σταύρος Παπασταθόπουλος είναι παντρεμένος και έχει δύο τέκνα, 23 και 20 ετών.

Δημήτριος Βακεντής

Ο Αντιστράτηγος Δημήτριος Βακεντής γεννήθηκε στους Μυτιληνιούς Σάμου, το 1966. Εισήχθη στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων το 1984 από την οποία αποφοίτησε το 1988, ως Ανθυπολοχαγός Πεζικού.

Μέχρι και το βαθμό του Ταγματάρχη (1988 – 2006) υπηρέτησε σε διάφορες Μονάδες Πεζικού μεταξύ αυτών και στο 2ο Μ/Κ ΤΠ της ΕΛΔΥΚ, καθώς επίσης και ως Διμοιρίτης στη Σχολή Μονίμων Υπαξιωματικών και Εκπαιδευτής στο Βασικό Τμήμα της Σχολής Πεζικού. Υπηρέτησε σε διάφορες επιτελικές θέσεις, στον Έβρο και στα νησιά του Αιγαίου και το 2006 τοποθετήθηκε ως ΜΑ to SMR στο NHTi. Μετά την προαγωγή του στο βαθμό του Αντισυνταγματάρχη (2007) ανέλαβε τη διοίκηση του 298 Μ/Κ ΤΑΓΜΑΤΟΣ της 79 ΑΔΤΕ. Το 2013 προήχθη στον βαθμό του Συνταγματάρχη. Ακολούθως τοποθετήθηκε στο Γενικό Επιτελείο Στρατού στη Διεύθυνση Εκπαίδευσης και στη συνέχεια (2015 – 2017) τοποθετήθηκε στην 79 ΑΔΤΕ ως Επιτελάρχης. Το 2018 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Ταξιάρχου και τοποθετήθηκε ως Υποδιοικητής στην 98 ΑΔΤΕ «ΑΡΧΙΠΕΛΑΓΟΥΣ». Το 2019 ανέλαβε τη διοίκηση της 79 Ανωτέρας Διοίκησης Ταγμάτων Εθνοφυλακής «ΜΥΚΑΛΗ» και το 2020 τοποθετήθηκε ως Επιτελάρχης στην Ανώτερη Στρατιωτική Διοίκηση Εσωτερικών και Νήσων (ΑΣΔΕΝ). Το 2021 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Υποστρατήγου τοποθετούμενος ως Επιτελάρχης στην 1η ΣΤΡΑΤΙΑ – OHQ «ΑΧΙΛΛΕΑΣ». Ακολούθως το 2022, του ανατέθηκε η διοίκηση της 95 ΑΔΤΕ «ΔΙΑΓΟΡΙΔΩΝ» και το 2023 τοποθετήθηκε ως Επιτελάρχης στην Ανώτερη Στρατιωτική Διοίκηση Υποστήριξης Στρατού (ΑΣΔΥΣ). Στις 13 Ιανουαρίου 2024 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Αντιστρατήγου και τοποθετήθηκε στη θέση του Επιτελάρχη του ΓΕΣ. Την 11 Ιανουαρίου 2025, κατόπιν απόφασης του ΚΥΣΕΑ, του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή ΑΣΔΥΣ. Την 9 Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, κατόπιν απόφασης του ΚΥΣΕΑ, του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή ΑΣΔΑΑΜ.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της σταδιοδρομίας του αποφοίτησε από όλα τα προβλεπόμενα στρατιωτικά σχολεία του Πεζικού, καθώς επίσης και από τη Σχολή Επιτελών του Στρατού Ξηράς, την Ανώτατη Σχολή Πολέμου και τη Σχολή Εθνικής Άμυνας.

Είναι κάτοχος πτυχίου γλωσσομάθειας της Αγγλικής γλώσσας (καλή γνώση).

Είναι παντρεμένος με την Δέσποινα Καββαδά και έχει δύο τέκνα, 31 και 28 ετών.

Παναγιώτης Καβιδόπουλος

Ο Αντιστράτηγος Παναγιώτης Καβιδόπουλος  γεννήθηκε το 1966 στο Βαθύ Σάμου. Εισήχθη το 1985 στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων από την οποία αποφοίτησε το 1989 με το βαθμό του Ανθυπολοχαγού Πεζικού.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της σταδιοδρομίας του, υπηρέτησε σε Μονάδες του Πεζικού ασκώντας διοίκηση όλων των επιπέδων συμπεριλαμβανομένων αυτών του Διοικητή.
Λοιπές θέσεις ευθύνης και επιτελικές θέσεις όπου έχει υπηρετήσει:

Το 1991 τοποθετήθηκε στο 512 ΤΠ ως Διοικητής Υπομονάδος και Δντής 3ου Γραφείου.

Το 1994 τοποθετήθηκε στο 212 ΤΕ ως Διοικητής Υπομονάδος και Δντής 2ου – 3ου Γραφείου.

Το 1998 τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής Υπομονάδος και Δντής 1ου Γραφείου του Τάγματος ΓΕΕΘΑ.

Το 2003 τοποθετήθηκε ως Επιτελής Στρατηγείου Δ’ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ».

Το 2005 τοποθετήθηκε ως Υποδιοικητής του 645 Μ/Κ ΤΠ.

Το 2006 τοποθετήθηκε ως Επιτελής Στρατηγείου Δ’ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ».

Το 2008 τοποθετήθηκε ως Τμηματάρχης της ΔΑΞ της Γενικής Επιθεώρησης Στρατού.

Το 2009 τοποθετήθηκε ως Ειδικός Επιτελής στην NRF-14 (ΔΑΝΙΑ)

Το 2010 τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής του 649 ΤΕ.

Το 2012 τοποθετήθηκε ως Προϊστάμενος Γραφείου Τμήματος Εκπαίδευσης ΑΔΙΣΠΟ – Εκπαιδευτής στην Έδρα Επιχειρησιακής Σχεδίασης.

Το 2015 τοποθετήθηκε ως Ακόλουθος Άμυνας της Ελλάδας στις ΗΠΑ

Το 2018 τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής Τμήματος Διεθνούς Στρατιωτικής Συνεργασίας ΓΕΕΘΑ/Δ’ ΚΛΑΔΟΣ

Το 2019 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Ταξιάρχου και τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής Ταξιαρχίας στην 50 Μ/Κ ΤΑΞΠΖ «ΑΨΟΣ»

Το 2020 τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής Επιτελικού Γραφείου Αρχηγού ΓΕΣ

Το 2022 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Υποστρατήγου και  τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής ΧΙΙ Μ/Κ ΜΕΡΑΡΧΙΑΣ ΠΕΖΙΚΟΥ «ΕΒΡΟΥ»

Το 2023 τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής της Διεύθυνσης Πεζικού του ΓΕΣ

Το 2024 τοποθετήθηκε στο ΓΕΕΘΑ, ως Διευθυντής/Δ΄ Κλαδου

Το 2025 προήχθη στο βαθμό του Αντιστράτηγου, και τοποθετήθηκε ως Διοικητής ΑΣΔΙΘ.

Ο Αντιστράτηγος Παναγιώτης Καβιδόπουλος έχει παρακολουθήσει όλα τα σχολεία του Πεζικού. Το έτος 2003 αποφοίτησε από την Ανωτάτη Σχολή Πολέμου και το έτος 2015 από τη Σχολή Εθνικής Άμυνας.

Κατέχει τίτλο «Εξειδίκευσης στη Διοίκηση Ανθρωπίνων Πόρων» του Εθνικού Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.

Κατέχει όλα τα προβλεπόμενα από τον βαθμό του Μετάλλια και Διαμνημονεύσεις. Επίσης του έχει απονεμηθεί το Τάγμα της Λεγεώνας της Αξίας από τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες Αμερικής (Legion Of Merit- US).

Ομιλεί την Αγγλική γλώσσα. Είναι έγγαμος και έχει τέσσερα (4) τέκνα.

Διοικητής Ανώτατης Στρατιωτικής Διοίκησης Ηπείρου-Μακεδονίας/NRDC-GR

Αντιστράτηγος

Γρηγόριος Μπουντλιάκης

Ο Αντιστράτηγος Γρηγόριος Π. Μπουντλιάκης γεννήθηκε το 1966 στο Heinsberg της Γερμανίας. Εισήχθη στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων το 1985 και αποφοίτησε το 1989 ως Ανθυπολοχαγός Πεζικού.

Φοίτησε σε όλα τα προβλεπόμενα σχολεία του Όπλου του, στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Πολέμου καθώς και στην Σχολή Εθνικής Άμυνας, όπου αποφοίτησε με διάκριση.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της σταδιοδρομίας του υπηρέτησε σε Μονάδες και Σχηματισμούς Πεζικού και Τεθωρακισμένων. Ως κατώτερος Αξιωματικός, υπηρέτησε ως Διμοιρίτης και Διοικητής Λόχου σε Μηχανοκίνητα Τάγματα Πεζικού και σε Ειδικό Τάγμα Προκαλύψεως στην Ελλάδα και στην Κύπρο.

Ως ανώτερος Αξιωματικός υπηρέτησε ως Τμηματάρχης Εκπαίδευσης του 3ου ΕΓ της XXV ΤΘΤ, ως Διευθυντής Υποστήριξης στην IV Ταξιαρχία Υποστήριξης, ως Διευθυντής Εκπαίδευσης και Ασκήσεων (ΔΑΣΕΚΠ) του Δ΄ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ», ως Διευθυντής Κέντρου Επιχειρήσεων του EUFOR στο Σαράγεβο, Βοσνία-Ερζεγοβίνη, ως Διοικητής του 31 ΛΑ-Τ, ως Διευθυντής 3ου ΕΓ της 31 Μ/Κ ΤΑΞ «ΚΑΜΙΑ», ως Διοικητής του 645 Μ/Κ TΠ, με το οποίο για έξι μήνες αναπτύχθηκε σε ειρηνευτική αποστολή στη Μιτρόβιτσα του Κοσσυφοπεδίου, ως Διευθυντής Υποστήριξης (ΔΥΔΜ) του Δ΄ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ», ως Στρατιωτικός Ακόλουθος της Ελλάδας στην Ελληνική Πρεσβεία στην Άγκυρα, ως Διευθυντής Πληροφοριών στο Δ΄ ΣΣ «ΘΡΑΚΗ», ως Διοικητής της Τακτικής Διοίκησης του 21 Μ/Κ ΣΠ, καθώς και ως Υποδιευθυντής της Διεύθυνσης Αμυντικού Σχεδιασμού και Προγραμματισμού (ΔΑΣΠ) του ΓΕΣ.

Το 2019, προήχθη σε Ταξίαρχο και του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή της 3ης Μ/Κ ΤΑΞ «ΡΙΜΙΝΙ», ενώ στο βαθμό αυτό τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής της Διεύθυνσης Πληροφοριών και Ασφάλειας (ΔΙΠΑ) του ΓΕΣ και της Διεύθυνσης Ανάλυσης και Εκμετάλλευσης Πληροφοριών του ΓΕΕΘΑ.

Το 2022 προήχθη σε Υποστράτηγο και του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή της 98 ΑΔΤΕ «ΑΡΧΙΠΕΛΑΓΟΥΣ», για δύο χρόνια. Τον Μάρτιο 2024, τοποθετήθηκε ως Διευθυντής του Κλάδου Στρατιωτικών Πληροφοριών ΓΕΕΘΑ (Ε΄ Κλάδος).

Την 10 Ιαν 25, προήχθη στο βαθμό του Αντιστρατήγου και με απόφαση του ΚΥΣΕΑ, του ανατέθηκαν τα καθήκοντα του Επιτελάρχη ΓΕΣ.

Με απόφαση του ΚΥΣΕΑ την 11 Ιανουαριου 2026 ανέλαβε τα καθήκοντα του Διοικητή Ανώτατης Στρατιωτικής Διοίκησης Ηπείρου-Μακεδονίας/NRDC-GR.

Στον Αντιστράτηγο Γρηγόριο Π. Μπουντλιάκη, έχει απονεμηθεί το σύνολο των προβλεπόμενων Παρασήμων, Μεταλλίων και Διαμνημονεύσεων.

Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο σπουδών στην Εφαρμοσμένη Στρατηγική και τη Διεθνή Ασφάλεια του Πανεπιστημίου Plymouth. Κατέχει Προπτυχιακό Δίπλωμα του Τμήματος Μηχανικών Παραγωγής και Διοίκησης της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης και έχει αποφοιτήσει από την 7η Εκπαιδευτική Σειρά Μεταπτυχιακού Σεμιναρίου «διά βίου μάθησης» στο Ινστιτούτο Διαρκούς Επιμόρφωσης, υπό την αιγίδα του ΓΕΕΘΑ.

Μιλάει αγγλικά και γερμανικά.

Είναι νυμφευμένος και έχει δύο γιους και μία εγγονή.

Anastasios Polichronos

Lieutenant General Anastasios Polychronos was born in 1967 in Athens. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as Artillery Second Lieutenant.

He has attended all Artillery Schools and courses, the Supreme Joint War College, and the Hellenic National Defence College.

During his career, he served in Artillery Units. He commanded the 80th Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion and served as Artillery Commander of the 79th National Guard Units Command and Director of the Hellenic Army General Staff Operations Centre.

As a general officer, he served as Director of Military Training of the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) (2019) and Director of the Crisis Management Directorate of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (2020-2022).

He was promoted to Major General in 2022 and assigned as Deputy Commander of the Army Inspectorate General – Doctrine and Training Command of the Hellenic Army General Staff.

On 08 March 2023, he was assigned as Commandant of the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon).

Upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, on 11 January 2026 he assumed the duties of Commander of the Joint Academic Education Command.

Konstantinos Karamanidis

Lieutenant General Konstantinos Karamanidis was born in 1968 in Alexandroupolis. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as Armour Second Lieutenant.

He has attended all required Armour courses, the Staff Officer College, the Army War College, and the Hellenic National Defence College.

During his career, he served in Armour Units and commanded the 95th National Guard Reconnaissance Battalion, the 24th Medium Tank Battalion, and the 5th Medium Tank Battalion (abroad).

He has served as Section Chief, Plans, at the 4th Staff Office of the 96th Higher National Guard Battalions Command (Chios); Section Chief of a Major Operational Command abroad; Instructor in the Tactics chair of the Command and General Staff College; Director, 3rd Staff Office, Command and General Staff College; Section Chief, Armour Directorate, Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS/ARM DTE); Section Chief, Counterintelligence Directorate, Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS/E5); Chief of Staff, XVI Mechanised Infantry Division (Didymotiho); and Formation Deputy Commander abroad.

He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2020 and assumed command of the XXI Armoured Brigade (Komotini). On 20 March 2021, he was assigned as Director of the Mobilisation Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS/A4), while on 20 March 2022 he assumed the duties of Director of the Executive Office of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff.

In 2023, he was promoted to Major General and assigned as Commanding General of the XVI Mechanised Infantry Division (Didymotiho), while on 17 March 2024 he was assigned as Director, A Branch, Hellenic Army General Staff.

On 11 January 2026, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned as Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Army General Staff.

Lieutenant General Konstantinos Gakis was born in 1969 in Farsala, Larissa.

He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1986 and graduated in 1990 as Infantry Second Lieutenant.

As a junior officer, he served in Special Forces Units as Platoon Leader and Company Commander.

He has attended all required Infantry and Special Forces courses, the International Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Course in Germany and the Special Forces Qualification Course (Q Course) in the US (distinguished graduate). He has also attended the ΝΑΤΟ Combined CFE Arms Control Verification Inspector/Escort Course, the Strategic Intelligence Course, the NATO PfP Media & Communication Course (Level Two), as well as the Army War College and the Hellenic National Defence College.

In 2005, he was assigned as Commander of the Special National Guard Battalion, Commander of the 7th Amphibious Raider Battalion, and in 2017 as Commander of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Battalion.

As a senior officer, he served in the 13th Special Operations Command as a staff officer and as Director, 3rd Staff Office, in HAGS/A3 as Section Chief, National and International Exercises, and in the Special Forces Command of HAGS as Director, 3rd Office.

In 2020, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Commander, 13th Special Operations Command (2020-2021).

In 2021, he was assigned as Chief of Staff, Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS” (2021-2022).

In 2022, he was assigned as Director of the Operations Directorate of HAGS (2022-2023).

In 2023, he was promoted to Major General and assumed the duties of Chief of Staff, Hellenic First Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS” (2023-2024).

In 2024, he was assigned as Deputy Commanding General, Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS” (2024-2025).

On 17 January 2025, he assumed the duties of Commanding General, XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”.

Upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, on 11 January 2026 he assumed the duties of Commanding General of the Hellenic Special Warfare Command.

Lieutenant General Athanasios Saplaouras was born in 1966 in Athens. In 1984, he was admitted to the Hellenic Army Academy from which he graduated in 1988 to be commissioned as Supply and Transportation Lieutenant.

As a junior Officer, he served in Supply and Transportation Units as Commander of the 839 Supply and Tr. Coy and 31 Combat Support Battalion.

He graduated from the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College in 2002 and Hellenic National Defense College in 2013.

He attended and graduated from Parachute schools, having all relative training and aerial jumps, till present.

Over his career as a senior officer, he served as well as Commander of the 865 Aerial Delivery Battalion, 871 Fuel Warehouse and Deputy Manager as a Colonel in Supply and Transportation Directorate (2019).

In 2020, he was promoted to Brigadier General and was assigned as Director General to the HNDG/Logistics Support Directorate (C1).

He was promoted to Major General in 2022, whereas he assumed the duties of. Commander of Sustainment Base Command.

On March 2024, he assumed the duties of C Branch of HAGS.

On 11 January 2026, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned as Commander of the Supreme Army Support Military Command.

Stavros Papastathopoulos

Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1966. He was admitted to the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) in 1984 and graduated in 1988, as Artillery Second Lieutenant.
Up until the rank of Major (1988-2006) he served in various Artillery Units, as well as Platoon Leader in the Hellenic Army Academy and as Trainer in the Artillery School. He also served in various staff appointments and as Aide-de-camp of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff. Upon being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (2007) he assumed duties as Commander of the 163rd Artillery Battalion (PzH 2000 GR). In 2009, he was transferred to the Hellenic Military Delegation in the Military Committee of NATO in Brussels. Upon completion of his duties in that position (2012), he was appointed Director of the Staff Office of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, where he was promoted to the rank of Colonel. Following (2014), he was appointed as Artillery Commander of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”. Afterwards, he initially assumed the duties of Chief of Section for National and International Operations in the Planning and Exercise Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff (2016), and, afterwards, of Chief of Section for International Planning – International Operations. In 2017, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed duties Director of the Defence Planning and Organisation Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff. In 2019, he was appointed Commanding General of the 96th Higher National Guard Battalion Command “CHIOS”, while in 2020, he was promoted to Major General and appointed Director of D’ Staff Directorate (Defence Planning – Organisation) of the Hellenic Army General Staff. In 2021, he was appointed Commanding General of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS” and in 2022, he assumed the duties of Commandant of the Hellenic Army Academy. On 17 January 2023 he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assumed the duties of Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Army General Staff. On 15 January 2024, he was appointed Commanding General of D’ Army Corps “THRAKI”. On 11 January 2025, he was appointed Commanding General of the Hellenic 1st Army and οn 11 January 2026 he assumed the duties of Army Inspector General / Commander of EU – OHQ.

During his career, he has graduated from all required schools of the Artillery, as well as the Hellenic Army Staff College, the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College, the Joint Defence Staff Officers’ College, and the Hellenic National Defence College. He has also graduated from the Basic Department of the Chemical Warfare School of the US Army, and from the US Command and General Staff College (Distance Learning).
Additionally, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos holds a postgraduate degree from the Νaval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California – USA [Master of Arts in Security Studies (Defense Decision – Making and Planning)] (2003-2004), and from Plymouth University – United Kingdom (Master of Arts in Applied Strategy and International Security), which he obtained through his studies in the Hellenic National Defence College (2013-2014). He is also a PhD Candidate in the International, European, and Area Studies Department of Panteion Social and Political Sciences University.

Dimitrios Vakendis

Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakedis was born in Mytilini village, Samos, in 1966. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1984 and graduated in 1988 as Infantry Second Lieutenant.

Up until the rank of Major (1988 – 2006) he served in various Infantry Units, among which were the 2nd Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Hellenic Forces in Cyprus, as well as Platoon Commander in the Hellenic Army NCO Academy, and Trainer in the Basic Training Section of the Infantry Academy. He has served as Staff Officer in Evros, the Aegean Islands, and in 2006 he was assigned as MA to SMR at HNTi. Upon his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel (2007), he was assigned as Commander of the 298th Mechanised Battalion of the 79th Higher National Guard Battalions Command. In 2013, he was promoted to Colonel. Then, he was transferred to the Training Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff, and following that, he was assigned as Chief of Staff of the 79th Higher National Guard Battalions Command (2015-2017). In 2018, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Deputy Commanding General of the 98th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “ARCHIPELAGOS”. In 2019, he was assigned as Commander of the 79th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “MYKALI” and, in 2020, as Chief of Staff of the Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands. In 2021, he was promoted to Major General and assigned as Chief of Staff of the Hellenic 1st Army – OHQ “ACHILLEAS”. In 2022, he was assigned as Commanding General of the 95th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “DIAGORIDON”, and in 2023 as Chief of Staff of the Supreme Army Support Command. On 13 January 2024, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and assumed the duties of Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Army General Staff. On 11 January 2025, upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, he was assigned as Commanding General of the Supreme Army Support Command. On 9 September 2025, upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, he was assigned as Commanding General, Supreme Military Command of the Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean.

During his career, he has graduated from all required Infantry training schools, as well as the Hellenic Army Staff Officers College, the Supreme Joint War College, and the National Defence College.

Panagiotis Kavidopoulos

Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos was born in 1966, in Vathy, Samos. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as an Infantry Second Lieutenant.

During the course of his career, he has served in Infantry Units, at command posts of all levels, including that of Commander.
He has also served in the following positions:

In 1991, he was appointed to the 512th Infantry Battalion as Subunit Commander and 3rd Office Director.

In 1994, he was appointed to the 212th National Guard Battalion as Subunit Commander and 2nd – 3rd Office Director.

In 1998, he was appointed Subunit Commander and 3rd Office Director of the HNDGS Battalion.

In 2003, he was appointed D Army Corps “THRAKI” HQ Staff Officer.

In 2005, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the 645th Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

In 2006, he was appointed D Army Corps “THRAKI” HQ Staff Officer.

In 2008, he was appointed Section Chief of the Evaluation Directorate of the Army Inspectorate General.

In 2009, he was appointed Special Staff Officer to NRF-14 (DENMARK).

In 2019, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned Commander of the 50th Mechanised Infantry Brigade “APSOS”.

In 2020, he was appointed Director of the Executive Office of the Chief of HAGS.

In 2022, he was promoted to Major General and assigned Commander of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”.

In 2023, he was appointed Director of HAGS/Infantry Directorate.

Grigorios Bountliakis

Lieutenant General Grigorios P. Bountliakis was born in 1966, in Heinsberg, Germany. He was admitted to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as an Infantry Second Lieutenant.

He has attended all required Infantry courses, the Supreme Army War College and the Hellenic National Defence College, from where he graduated with distinction.

In the course of his career, he has served in Infantry and Armour Units and Formations. As a junior Officer he has served as platoon leader and company commander in Mechanised Infantry Battalions and a Special Covering Battalion in Greece and Cyprus.

As a senior officer, he has served as Training Section Chief in the 3rd SO of the XXV Armoured Brigade, as Director of Support in the IV Support Brigade, as Director of Training and Exercises of D Army Corps “THRAKI”, as Operations Centre Director of EUFOR in Sarajevo, Bosnia – Herzegovina, as Company Commander of the 31st Anti-Tank Company, as Director of the 3rd SO of the 31st Mechanised Brigade “KAMIA”, as Commander of the 645th Mechanised Battalion,with which he deployed in Mitrovica, Kosovo, for six months, on a peacekeeping mission, as Logistics Director of D Army Corps “THRAKI”, as Military Attaché at the Greek Embassy in Ankara, as Intelligence Director at D Army Corps “THRAKI”, as Commander of the 21st Mechanised Infantry Regiment Tactical Command, as well as Deputy Director of the Defence Planning and Programming Directorate of HAGS.

In 2019 he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned the duties of Commanding General of the 3rd Mechanised Brigade “RIMINI”, and subsequently as Director of the HAGS Intelligence and Security Directorate and the HNDGS Intelligence Analysis and Exploitation Directorate.

In 2022, he was promoted to Major General and assigned the duties of Commanding General of the 98th Higher National Guard Battalions Command “ARCHIPELAGO” for two years. In March 2024, he was appointed as HNDGGS Director of Military Intelligence (E Branch).

On 10 Jan 2025, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and, upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council, he was assigned as HAGS Chief of Staff.

On 11 January 2026 upon decision of the Governmental National Security Council he was assigned as Commanding General of Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia/ NRDC – GR.

Lieutenant General Grigorios P. Bountliakis has been awarded all decorations, medals, and commendations provided for his rank.

He holds a postgraduate degree in “Applied Strategy and International Security” from Plymouth University.
