From 27 to 28 June 2026, the Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, accompanied by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean “AEGEAS”, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakentis, visited the Area of Responsibility of the 96th Higher National Guard Battalion Command “CHIOS”.
In particular, on Saturday 27 June 2026, the Chief visited the “AGIAS ELENIS” Surveillance Outpost on Chios, the “OINOUSSES” Surveillance Outpost on Oinousses islet, and the “PSARA” Surveillance Outpost, on the interstitial islet of Psara. During his visits, the Chief gave a short address, provided guidelines, and congratulated the personnel on their work.
Afterwards, in the framework of his visit, the Chief attended the anniversary events for the 202th Anniversary of the Holocaust of Psara, as representative of the Chief HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis. Among others, the events included a memorial service and doxology on Mavri Rachi Hill, which were officiated by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Chios, Psara, and Oinousses, Mr. Markos, a Trisagion Service at the Memorial to the Fallen, as well as a presentation on the timeline of the Holocaust.
Finally, on Sunday 28 June 2026, the Chief went to the Temple of Saint Nicholas, where he attended a memorial service followed by the laying of wreaths at the Holocaust Heroes’ Square.
The events were attended by the Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Mr. Stefanos Gikas, MPs for Chios, Mr. Panagiotis Mitarakis and Mr. Stavros Michailidis, the Mayor of the Heroic Island of Psara, Mr. Konstantinos Vratsanos, representatives of the Local Government, active duty officers of the Armed and Security Forces, and other guests.
