On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikos Dendias, accompanied by the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, and the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace “THRAKI”, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, attended a commemorative event for Fallen Muslim Greeks during World War 2 which took place at the local community of Oreo of the Municipality of Myki, Xanthi.

The event included a roll call of the fallen, a volley salute, a speech, and wreath laying.

The event was also attended by MPs for Xanthi Mr. Spyridon Tsiligiris and Mr. Burhan Baran, the Mayor of Myki Mr. Ahmet Kürt, the Deputy Head of Region for the Regional Unit of Xanthi Ms. Vasiliki Pavlakaki, representatives of the local and religious authorities, active duty and retired Armed and Security Forces officers, as well as a delegation of pupils from the Minority Elementary School of Oreo and Mantena.
