On Friday, 16 January 2026, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Supreme Military Command of Epirus and Macedonia/NRDC-GR “MEGAS ALEXANDROS” change of command ceremony took place at Camp “PEDION AREOS” in Thessaloniki, with Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis relinquishing command to Lieutenant General Grigorios Bountliakis.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of the Interior (for Macedonia and Thrace) Mr. Konstantinos P. Gioulekas, MPs, the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Mr. Filotheos, the Deputy Head of Region for Development and the Environment Mr. Efstathios Avramidis, representing the Head of the Region of Central Macedonia Ms. Athina Athanasiadou – Aidona, the Deputy Mayor for Communal Area Protection and Municipal Police Mr. Georgios Dimarelos, as representative of the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Stelios Angeloudis, the Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General Frangos Frangoulis (ret.), the Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, General Angelos Choudeloudis (ret.), the Army Inspector General/Commander EU-OHQ, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, the Metropolitan of Neapoli and Stavroupoli Mr. Varnavas, the Metropolitan of Nea Krini and Kalamaria Mr. Ioustinos, state Consuls, representatives of local government, active duty and retired Armed and Security Forces officers, and other guests.
