On Tuesday, 9 December 2025, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Thanasis Davakis and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Choupis, a ceremony was held at the Parachutist School in Aspropyrgos, Attica, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Parachutist School.
The ceremony included, among others, a memorial service and wreath laying by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Thanasis Davakis, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, and the US Military Attaché to Greece, Colonel Eric Bauer, followed by a naming ceremony of the Free Fall room in honour of Lieutenant (Inf) Ioannis Zoumis, who served for many years in the School and made a decisive contribution to its development, and static line jumps over the sea off the coast of Aspropyrgos and free fall jumps within the camp perimeter.
After the ceremony, honoured guests and visitors had the opportunity to tour the museum equipment exhibition.
The ceremony was attended by MP of State Mr. Evangelos Apostolakis, MP for Eastern Attica Mr. Stylianos Fotopoulos, the Mayor of Aspropyrgos Mr. Ioannis Ilias, the Honorary Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros (ret.), the Commanding General of the Hellenic Special Warfare Command, Lieutenant General Georgios Manouras, the Commander of the Hellenic Navy Aviation Command, Commodore Dimitrios Kamaras HN, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras HN, the Director of C Branch of the Air Support Command, Brigadier General (HAF) Ioannis Karamaniolas, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General (HAF) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, the Deputy Head of Region for Western Attica Ms. Athanasia Papaspyrou, Defence Attachés, active duty and retired Armed Forces officers, family members of Lieutenant (Inf) Ioannis Zoumis, and other guests.
