On Sunday, 06 January 2019, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, attended the Epiphany celebrations in Halkis. The celebrations included a Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of Aghios Nikolaos of Halkis, the Service of the Great Blessing of the Waters, and a procession to the city beach, where the Blessing of the Waters and the throwing of the Precious Cross took place.

The celebrations were attended by the local civilian and religious authorities, the Commanding General of the Infantry School, Major General Ioannis Sourvas, a delegation of Armed Forces personnel, as well as crowds of people.

After the celebrations, the Chief HAGS visited the Mayor of Halkis, Mr. Christos Pagonis, at the City Hall where they discussed, among others, the importance of the presence of Army personnel in the city of Halkis as a result of the Infantry School and the Infantry Directorate being stationed there.
